relocating - where to live

I might be relocating to Brissie from Sydney. I would be working near Bald Hills (I could take the train and walk down Gympie Rd to get there). Here are the things I would like:
close to public transport (don't own a car and not really looking to get one)
near water (or as close as possible)
convenient to amenities like woolys/coles/aldi
no more than max 40 minutes each way to work
I like cafe culture but not a must
SOME night life - not rave's or a million dance clubs, just something to do

I realize I may not get ALL of these things but any suggestions and why you recommend them would be fantastic!
