"Nice neighbourly neighbourhood"

Nestled in the foothills of the Dandenongs, Mount Burnett is a peaceful and healthy area. Paternoster Road locals are friendly but not nosey.

It is a rural area so the properties range from one acre to over one hundred acres. The environment is GREAT! It is a quiet bush setting with the 300 acre Chambers Fauna and Fauna reserve a healthy walk or short drive away down Matters Road and the Bimbimbie Wildlife Park a few hundred metres up from the Pakenham Road end.

Lots of locals walk themselves, their dogs or their horses along the bush track that runs beside the road. A friendly "hello" is always exchanged.

There are a few bogans who speed down the road and kill kangaroos and other wild life by grossly exceeding a safe driving speed but these all live in one or two houses and should not spoil the reputation of an otherwise intelligent and friendly area.

Emerald is 10 kms away and Cockatoo is 6 kms away. The monthly Gembrook market is a short drive away (about 7 kms via the Mount Burnett Road).

Local schools include the Cockatoo and Emerald Primary Schools and the Cockatoo Montessori School. School buses actually run along Paternoster road to pick up children for Emerald Secondary College and a few other schools in the Dandenongs.

Nightlife is non existent unless you mean the kind of nightlife that has four legs and a tail.

For restaurants, Emerald, Pakenham and, to a lesser extent, Gembrook or Upper Beaconsfield are the only options.

You need to drive everywhere!

Blocks do not have gas, water or sewage so you have to DIY the basic services. Electricity and broadband are connected though! Mobile/cell phone coverage is pretty good.

Most houses are owned by families with children.

The area has a long memory so reputations last a long time.

The road itself is one of the premiere roads in the area. Built along a ridge line it has breathtaking views on either side, to the Yarra Valley to the east and to Melbourne to the west.
