What is the loud humming noise I hear coming from near the Petrie Railway or Amcor Paper mill?

It is most notable at night time - a few nights a week and quite late at night (it's 10 pm and I can hear it outside as I type this). I live 15min walk from the railway and can hear it, it must annoy people living closer than I am to it. I am wondering if whoever is making this much noise is allowed to do so at this hour.

Hi there. My names Jim and I do live close to there. Generally between those hours I am operating my large industrial sized citrus fruit juicer. I also have several combine harvesters which I turn on for good measure. It’s highly likely that I am responsible for the noise issue. Thanks.

Hi Traceys82, More then likely it was the mill you heard, especially on those still quiet nights where the noise travels. The mill does have a social responsibility and is governed by local law, so if you were after specific information regarding their operation, I would contact them direct (via Amcors website). They conduct regular community engagement and advertise this frequently in the local papers. Also, I am not sure of the operating times of the demolition crew on the bridge, but perhaps there was something going in there too?
If the noise starts to bug you, I'd contact your local councelor, it's election season...they will more then likely jump on a community issue that will win them favour. If you do go down this path, let me know...I'd be curious to see what he outcome is.

I have been in contact with DERM since March this year as the noise IS coming from AMCOR (DERM issues their license to operate), DERM has done one lot of noise monitoring within this timeframe and unfortunately it was a day when AMCOR was not making the loud noise that it usually does, there have been no other monitoring of noise since then despite my calls letting DERM know its still happening. It's so frustrating that nothing is being done about this. I encourage you to contact DERM also, maybe there is more strength in numbers. The number is 13 QGOV.

Hi Traceys82, we are considering moving to Petrie next month, is the problem you mentioned solved? Thanks for the info. Cheers.
