Thinking of relocating to Port Douglas...

Ex-Poms currently living on the Gold Coast...but contemplating relocating to Port Douglas. We potentially have a business oppportunity in the pipeline for the new year which could take us to Port Douglas. If it was just me & my partner we'd go tomorrow; but because we have a youngish family (ages 18, 13 & 4) we are unsure on the suitability of Port Douglas in relation to the kids. I'm aware of the obvious downside of the extreme heat, rain & humidity in the summer months but I would be interested to hear any other positives/negatives from anyone else who has reloctated to Port Douglas.

As an expat from Philippines currently living in Port Douglas seems nothing different from other places except during summers which seems very hard to adjust the extreme heat. Traffic is not so bad.

Not a lot for the kids to do there. Heat and humidity are a big factor (and rain and cyclones!). If you wanted somewhere more suitable for the kids I would suggest Cairns (about 68kms or 1 hour driving). You still obviously get the heat and humidity but at least there's things to do there. Port Douglas is just one big resort really with not many facilities......

Heat is not a problem. Sydney gets hotter. It's the humidity. If you're a bit of a princess it will break you. If you're resilient it won't. It only lasts a couple of months a year.
