Reviews of Quay Street, Depot Hill
"Maybe try another suburb"
Flooding is still an issue for some of the properties in Depot Hill, make sure you check local flood maps and ask some legitimate locals before buying anything. I would also make sure you're buying a house with security screens and a door that can't be broken down with an axe. Neighbourly spirit seems pretty good as i think you can generally steal back from your neighbours whatever they've taken from you - it's like one big community. Nightlife is also pretty good, you'll see all sorts of people out and about during the night, especially due to all the nightclubs/pubs being just down the street. I have lived on the North Side of Rockhampton for a number of years, I'd recommend Wandal and Allenstown ahead of Depot Hill. In general just make sure you do some independent research before buying here.
"Investment Gem, Quay St is Riverfrontage! yet underpriced..."
Where else can you in Australia can you buy waterfront property at such amazingly low prices?
The locals haven't cottoned on yet to the value of property by the water yet. And walking distance to the GPO! Flooding was an issue in the past for Rockhampton locals but since the Barrage was put in there has not been a problem since. Even the massive rainfalls of late have not broken the river banks along Quay St. This is a very quiet street yet only a few minutes walk along the lovely Fitzroy River banks brings you into the heart of Rockhampton City with its beautiful old buildings. Enjoy Australia's best steaks at the famous Criterion Hotel, also on the River front. Rocky is Australia's Beef Capital. With the meat industry always growing and Universities and shopping centres springing up you know you are investing in a solid historical Australian town. Rental returns are among the best in Australia and rental occupancy has always been high. Notice how in all big cities what was once the cheap, undesirable inner city properties became the mega expensive trendy areas? Look at anywhere around the world...you can't go wrong buying by the water, be it coastal, river or lake.
