"Great place if you have a stay-at-home wife and kids"

Roxby Downs in is a corporate mining town - think affluent suburb from the city transplanted to the desert and filled with miner men, their voluptuous wives and numerous spoilt kids. All the streets curve back on themselves making you think the town is bigger than it is. It also means you're always directed back to the town centre, no matter how hard you try to leave.

If you're a family with good traditional values, then Roxby is the place for you. Here, it's the status quo for men to be the breadwinners at the mine while the women stay at home and reproduce. It's quite quaint in a freaky 1950s time warp kind of way.

"A modern city with a bright future"

It is a quiet town with a population for more than 5000 people. It is one of the richest city in Australia with a very high income base due to it being a mining town.

There are lots of investors projecting into the open mine cut of the Olympic dam with the full support of the South Australian Government. It is still very affordable compared to the western mining state. Rental yield is fantastic.

It is dry and hot but clear blue skies most of the time. Great for family who just wants to get out of the city life.

"A modern town in the middle of the desert"

Roxby Downs is a reasonably new town, built in the middle of the desert to house all of the workers in the region's burgeoning Olympic Dam mine. Roxby is situated around 600 kilometres from Adelaide.

The town maintains a population of around 5,000, but this is highly transient as many of the miners are here for work only on a 'two weeks on, two weeks off' basis.

That being said, the town has all of the facilities that you would expect of any modern town, ranging from shops, excellent recreational resources (including swimming pools and gyms), cinemas and lots of services. There is a school and medical facilities.

The temperatures in Roxby are usually scorching, reaching well over 40 degrees in the summer.

The roads to Roxby are well surfaced, and so it is a long but easy drive. Nearby towns include Woomera and Andamooka.
