Hi Madaleine, I used to live (and work) in Rutherford and overall found it to be a wonderful place.

Yes, there are a couple of housing commission "pockets", (as do most established suburbs) but having lived on streets adjacent to those, I never experienced any issues.

Rutherford offers a large community, close to everything you need, having its own retail and commercial precincts and is only a short drive from the Maitland CBD or Greenhills Shopping Centre.

There area also plenty of small retail businesses to frequent, with various food providers, hairdressers, formal wear etc around the local shopping precinct.

The Bradford hotel is a great local pub, being the longstanding local favourite, having great food, live events and also featuring a fantastic outdoor play ground for the kids!

There are plenty of schooling options in Rutherford and the greater Maitland area, boasting its own large public primary and secondary schools and several private and catholic schools being a short drive away in surrounding suburbs, Lochinvar, Telarah, Maitland and East Maitland.

Aside from the schools, there are plenty of local child care providers, sporting teams, dance troupes and other extra curricular activities scattered throughout the area.

Having a plethora of local activities, child care, retail services and a commercial precinct there are also plenty of career prospects in the Rutherford area.

It is also relatively close to local tourism hotspots, being roughly a 30-45 minute drive to the Newcastle Beaches, and the Hunter Vineyard regions.

Hi Madaleine, did you buy a place in Rutherford? My partner and I are trying to find an affordable property in the Maitland area since he has been relocated with work. Can you offer any advice on Rutherford? Our other options were Telarah or Metford since Maitland is now quite pricey for our budget.

Thanks so much,
Natalie
