Reviews of Scullin, ACT

"Scullin. Hidden gem of Belconnen."

Scullin has fluctuated in a lot of areas since 1968. With the expansion of the Belconnen and Gungahlin areas Scullin is now considered a very central and convenient place to live. A quiet and leafy area, with well built houses and low crime rates, Scullin is quickly becoming the next “Million dollar suburb”. Property value is quickly rising in 2021 and also was the 4th highest performing suburb in 2017. With about 1300 dwellings in the area, many built on decent sized blocks of land, Scullin is big enough to harbour a good community spirit (Federal member Andrew Leigh’s Canberra Community Champions - Oct 2020) yet small enough to be quiet and safe. The local shops had seen a sharp decline during the 1990’s/2000’s but is slowly being reenergised. Still a fair way to go before it becomes the once busy, and much loved suburban hub it used to be in the 70’s, 80’s and early 1990’s. With savvy business investors I can easily envisage the Scullin shops being on par with the Cook shops precinct or even better.

Looking for a home in Scullin?

"Practical yet stylish and peaceful."

Tightly held suburb .. very soon to see escalation in real estate prices. With large block sizes, quiet peaceful living and proximity to both the Belconnen city & Canberra CBD areas, Scullin is a great choice of place to buy or rent for all age groups. Public transport abounds as do all other amenities so I do not understand the cons listed above.. possibly outdated. It is close enough to city living to be convenient & practical and far enough from it to be peaceful. It is the place to be. It is bounded by 4 of Canberra's great arterial roads: Belconnen Way, Southern Cross road, Coulter drive and Kingsfordsmith Drive which makes it an easy drive to most other locations. You will have quick & easy access to bulk billing and hospital facilities apart from other healthcare facilities like physios, Psychologists etc . Canberra nightlife as a whole is nothing to speak of but easy access to the CBD & Belconnen from Scullin can give you some of what is available in Canberra. Also quite a safe suburb. Highly recommended.

Great for

  • Good Public transport
  • Access to important main roads
  • Close to health care and schooling facilities
  • Close to the city
  • Family friendly
  • Great parks and gardens

Not great for

  • Would like to see Scullin Shops develop a bit more

"Get in Quick Great Family Area"

Scullin is located about 10 kms west north west of Canberra. The local shops in Hawker are able to provide of of the daily necessities. Also Westfiled Belconnen is only a short drive away. It is a family friendly area with plenty of parkland to enjoy. It is a very sought after area and you have act quickly to buy into the area. Homes with more land are especially valued. There are plenty of grand old homes in need of a little modernisation. It is only 15 minutes from the city and the airport is only 30 minutes away.

Great for

  • Close to the city
  • Family friendly
  • Great parks and gardens

Not great for

  • Fire prone area
