Prahran
30th January 2026

"Out of budget these days but still the best place I've lived"

I lived in Prahran from 2008 firstly as a young single professional (fun!) then as a married mum with family (fun in a different way). Prahran keeps you young at heart, acting as a connection between the bougey vibes of High St Armadale and grungey atmosphere of Chapel St. The only downside for me is the degradation of Chapel St. It used to be incredible back in the day however now, the empty shops dominate, there are awful retail choices everywhere and the constant revolving door of very average dining options continue to turn. I wish the council would do something to improve this and bring back the Chapel St spirit of the past. For now, I'd recommend staying in Prahran East and venturing up to Armadale, South Yarra or even Glenferrie Road for your gastronomic fix.

McKinnon

"Feels a bit bland"

I often visit McKinnon because I have to. It feels so devoid of trees and culture. Is it just me? I know it's a prime school zone though.

Ascot Vale

"A hidden gem in the inner west"

Ascot Vale has wonderful pubs, restaurants and top produce stores and groceries. It's got a cool, elevated young professionals vibe making it perfect for young families who want a change from the crowded areas of the east. It's so close to everything - I can be anywhere in 20-30 mins! Close to the racecourse can be tricky for traffic during racing season, otherwise it's easy.
Great schools, a welcoming community and frankly, a great investment for property too!

Glen Iris

"Beautiful, leafy Glen Iris"

I used to live nearby and always loved visiting friends in Glen Iris. Such stunning homes and leafy streets. Pricey real estate but I believe the blocks are good value for money. Such a nice part of the world!

Albert Park

"One of the most beautiful suburbs in Melbourne"

Albert Park is a glamorous and old worldly suburb in Melbourne. Some of the most beautiful architecture and close to the beach.

Windsor

"Northside in the south"

With cool cafes, bar and fun nightlife, Windsor is a southside version of what you can expect from a suburb like Fitzroy. It's close to everything, but even though it's only 5km from the city, the Sandringham line from Windsor can prove difficult for those trying to get to Southern Cross or South Melbourne. Homes in Windsor include classic Victorian and Edwardian, single and double fronted, as well as hidden warehouse treasures such as the famous knitting mills. It's great for young professionals.

Florence Street

"A hidden gem surrounded by neighbourly spirit"

Florence St is a one way street in Prahran that crosses into Armadale on the Orrong Road border. The majority of Florence St residents have lived there for a long time and it's home to a neighbourly spirit as a result. Florence St is close to a late night pharmacy, IGA, parks and playgrounds and some cool restaurant and takeaways as well as Morning Market, Sum of Us and Spoonful. Our local is the recently-renovated Orrong Pub Hotel, owned by the owners of gastropub Mount Erica about 800m down the road. Florence St is the best street to live on in Prahran if you want a quiet, friendly and welcoming environment. Being quiet, it is great for kids and people with pets. There are also heritage cottages along the street, all of which are maintained to retain the classic Prahran frontage aesthetic. The Number 6 tram is accessible near the top of the street and High St Armadale is not far either.
