Reviews of Prahran, VIC
"Rough and Sketchy"
Kids running around with knives and dealers around most corners. Has become more gentle but is still really rough and dangerous.
"Digusting"
I have spent many years around this area and I find it to be very disgusting. Throughout the whole day their are youth gangs running around causing destruction.
"Vintage Charm"
Prahran strikes a balance between city convenience and impeccable lifestyle. It’s proximity to the city centre, the lush green spaces of Fawkner and Albert Park, and the iconic Prahran Market make it a lifestyle hub. The vintage charm and modern vibrancy of Chapel Street’s boutiques, restaurants, and cafes cements Prahran's reputation as one of Melbourne's most coveted and alluring suburbs.

"Never mind the 5km travel restriction"
I moved to Prahran at the end of 2020, and am so grateful to have lived here throughout Melbourne’s various lockdown restrictions. Who needs to go more than 5km anyway?! Within easy reach of the beach, the city, shopping, dining, coffee, bars…even if you can’t actually dine out or browse the shops 🤔

"Coffee, culture and beautiful homes"
We live in Prahran East and we wouldn't live anywhere else. Being midway between High St Armadale and Chapel St offers the best of both worlds. Orrong Park and Vic gardens are ideal for kids as well as dog walking with a coffee from anywhere along High St. The highlight is the Mount Erica pub, which serves the best chicken schnitzel in Melbourne.

"Super convenient"
The location is a best thing about Prahran. The residential areas are very well connected with different train lines - Sandringham and Frankston (if you live near Toorak or Hawksburn village) , trams as well buses. The shops are plenty and chapel street is always happening. Parks are great. The only not so good point is - it is getting expensive. :(

"Horrible. Suburb"
I work in this suburb, I wasn’t a fan but since working in Prahran dislike it even more. Traffic is horrendous, parking very difficult to get. Then there is the drug addled people on the streets, who beg for money whilst smoking and having their cans of Jim Beam next to them. Chapel St contains deserted shops even the banks are leaving, I just found out NAB branch is closing within the month. Don’t walk around without shoes in parks or side streets you’ll be pricked by a syringe. The most disturbing thing is the stark difference between the haves and the have nots, no middle in this suburb. Avoid at all costs. Not a safe suburb.
"Great place to live!"
This is a great suburb to live in. The Prahran end of Chapel Street is my favorite end with top quality cafes, restaurants, bars and shops. Also incredibly convenient with loads of public transport options available taking you anywhere you want to go. A great atmosphere all around so if you like getting amongst the action there is no better place to live.

Agreed! Hit's the sweet spot between the chic' of Windsor and the loudness of South Yarra
"Trendy, busy and expensive suburb."
I went to school in Prahran. It's a busy, trendy suburb. It gets quite congested and parking is not very good. It's close to chapel st, so there are a lot of pretentious, arty type people around that area. It's very cosmopolitan. Not so good for young families, especially those on a budget, because most young families are priced out of Prahran. It's mainly a professional people suburb. Lots of little cafes and bars and boutique stores around that area that appeal to yound trendy people. Prahran also has lots of gay people.

"Upmarket and fashionable"
Sitting on the edges of Melbourne’s CBD, Prahran is a bustling suburb ideal for professionals and families. Filled with shops, restaurants, cafes, bars, bookstores, clothing stores and music shops, the area is also home to many delightful hidden gardens. It has an upmarket and fashionable reputation and plays host to a large collection of brilliantly architectured buildings. Trains and trams both service Prahran and property in the area consists mostly of Victorian and Edwardian terrace houses, the average cost of which is around $700,000. Prahran’s 10,000-strong population are just a stone’s throw from areas such as South Yarra, Armadale, St Kilda and Windsor.

I have to disagree that Prahran is good for families with kids. There are very few kids in Prahran, as most families are priced ot of the market or decide to go to the more family friendly places in the suburbs. I think its best for kids to be raised around other kids for socialization, so its best for families to go to the quieter family friendly areas.
The demographic of the area is changing, professionals are having kids and extending
their homes to stay in the area given the amenities available and they don't want to give up the lifestyle to live further away in the suburbs.
"Close to everything, this is a real gem"
Shops close by, a good number of restaurants and cafés and nice and close to the city makes Prahran one of the premier inner city locations in Melbourne.
It is a friendly area and a great spot for young professionals, couple and families alike. For the young families it is a safe and quiet area and for the young couples and singles there are plenty of places to gte out and about. It’s a matter of choosing the right street in the area to suit your needs.
Easy access to the city and chapel street make for a great spot to get out and have a night out or a lovely meal.
The area is also well serviced by public transport.
