I have had a life-long dream to ride the Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad. I imagine it to be a beautiful experience!

No. Durango is just over six hours from Denver one way, so you're already looking at a 12 hour car ride. The train leaves in the morning typically around 8-8:45 and doesn't get back until around 6pm. You could probably do it in two days, although one of those days would be really, really long.

Thanks! It's on the list as a 2 to 3 day-er then :) I still need to hit the Georgetown Loop and the Mount Evans Cog railway. I was sad to hear that I missed the Royal Gorge railway and it's no longer in service.
