Maddington vs South Guildford which one is preferable to live in for a young family?

Definitely South Guildford. Much nicer suburb. MUCH MUCH nicer :)

I agree. Sth Guildford is a nice suburb with river access, parks for children and dog walking, shopping and train access if you need it as well. It is a historical area with leafy streets, antique shops and character houses as well as access to good schools. Maddington is a very different type of suburb and a long way from the city. In fact, without any offence, it is a little like choosing between apples and oranges.

Maddington is way, way out of the city centre and South Guildford - well - I wish I could live there! I don't know if it is technically south, guildford or Bassendean, but there are some pretty big houses going up on North st by the riverside parks.
