"Good value suburb for inner west (just) family living"

The residential part of this suburb is relatively small - everything west of the Cooks River is industrial. This is the south-west corner - and one of the most affordable bits - of the Inner West.
Pros:
- decent primary school (physically in neighbouring Strathfield)
- quiet, low density streets
- parks and playgrounds
- good price-to-lifestyle ratio
Cons:
- the public high school is much worse than others nearby
- noise pollution
- bit too close to Belfield and Greenacre

"More affordable than Strathfield with the same access to Strathfields charm and amenities"

Living in Strathfield South for the last 11 years after moving oh so far from the Strathfield post code. Strathfield South has all the same advantages other than the 2135 post code.

With access to some of the most desired schools both public and private for both Primary and Secondary campuses people have been known to relocate just to be able to take advantage of being in the catchment zone for these fine education campuses.

Having easy access to both Buses and trains that can commute you to most of Sydney with such ease has its advantages also.

Being such a multicultural suburb means that you are never short of a different cuisine should your taste buds seek something different to try.

Sports grounds, Parks, Bicycle trails, off leash dog parks and BBQ picnic public areas allow families to enjoy the outdoors, exercise and socialise within close proximity to home.

"Better off living in Strathfield or Strathfield North"

Strathfield South does have some decent villas and a very intriguing abode infrastructure, but there are virtually no amenities in the actual suburb itself. It is decent for low cost family living, but if one is to be family oriented, I'd recommend either North Strathfield or Strathfield, because it will be difficult in itself to access amenities in Strathfield due to high pedestrian and road traffic.

Have to disagree with you here.
One of the best public schools in the inner west is South Strathfield Public School. Where people will move into the catchment zone just to be able to enrol their children in the school.
There is accessible public transport to almost anywhere within short proximity
Buses
450 - Strathfield Station (Albert Road) and runs via Belfield Water Street & Punchbowl Road, Lakemba Station (Haldon Street), Roselands Shopping Centre, Beverly Hills Station (King Georges Road) and Westfield Hurstville.
480/483 - Strathfield, Burwood, Ashfield, City,
M90 - Bankstown, Liverpool, Strathfield Station

You also cant compare Strathfield South to North Strathfield as they are opposite sides of Parramatta Road and completely different demographics.

Compared to Strathfield where some parts can be quite grotty or overly expensive Strathfield South offers great parks, public transport, schooling and local shops and is within close proximity to Burwood westfields and other more prevalent amenities.

Yep, its idyllic for family living, but perhaps for other categories, less so. It is true that some parts of Strathfield can be as you described, but that happens with numerous suburbs across Greater Sydney.
Additionally, North Strathfield being on the opposite side of Parramatta Rd shouldnt inhibit me from comparison. The demographics of neighboring suburbs across Sydney will of course have certain variation, but in the cases of these suburban regions, he demographic shouldnt have all too much effect on live ability.
