Reviews of Blackwater, QLD
"Hard working small town"
Of the permanent residents 90+% are all hard working couples and familys. A Mining town where generally everyone looks out for eachother. Wonderful primary schools. Very few retail shops (only the bare essentials) but with Emerald only 75kms away....what's a 3/4 hr drive when you live in Queensland...shops are practially just down the road.
Cost of living is quite high..food will cost you more, tradespeople will cost you more, somtimes seems as though everyone is out to make a quick buck out of you here. Mining towns can also go from BOOM to BUST overnight.
Great for
- Small town no traffic lights
- Great community spirit
- Beautiful Winters
Not great for
- Cost of living
- Mining camps and more to come!
- Summer = HOT

"A lovely community"
Blackwater is a small mining town which is comprised of couples, families and workers. Everyone is very friendly and there is never a shortage of country hospitality. Whilst there are many mining camps and there are workers who are simply here to work, there is still a strong sense of community. As with any town there is one or two streets with less than wonderful occupants however these are few and far between. I am a young lady that owns a house here with my partner and I have nothing but praise for the people and town of Blackwater.

"Could be better"
Unfortunately Blackwater has a lot of temporary residents which doesn't do the community any good. The price of properties and rentals in insane. Facilities are good, the majority of people are nice and it's easy to be happy here. Emerald is only a short drive away so you're never too far away from necessities. I'd recommend it for the short term but I wouldn't suggest raising a family here.
It has it's bad sides which should be noted. We live in a seemingly nice street but most nights of the week we have groups of teenagers and adults walking past shouting obscenities, vomiting in our garden, throwing things at our house and even setting fire to our garden (Has happened more than once!) There is a severe problem with the youth of the town causing problems when they can. If you live here, have a high fence!

"Blackwater - Coal Mining town with unique gardens."
Blackwater is known as the Coral Capital of Queensland. The Coral from this area is exported worldwide and has a sister city in Japan call Fujisawa. Blackwater offers the visitor to see a stunning Japanese Garden and the Lions Park has one of the largest displays of international flags in the state. Blackwater is a coal mining town and other than those involved in the motels, services stations and shops etc most of the town in employed by the mine. There are some inexpensive properties for sale in the area and the town has good accommodation the motels, hotels and caravan park. Visit the Mine, the gardens and the parks as well as the natural wonders in surrounding areas.

Best place to invest. my rental property is doing well $400 per week sudden increase . No house for rent and big demand. New fuel station has been built.
It is great to hear and hope people will come settle and boost the economy.
