"Stunning stretch of coastline the perfect backdrop for this seaside paradise"
Wonderful caring vibrant communities reside in Ettalong Umina & Booker Bay. Fabulous cafes, services, transport options. The beaches & waterways are superb. We have Only encountered lovely friendly people. Have been here 3 years now & have only been enriched by the experience.

"Love this place"
Ettalong Beach is such a great place to live. Pretty quiet and peaceful, lots of birds. I love how walkable it is, just a quick flat walk to local shops, cafes, etc. The beach is right nearby, and great for a walk or a swim (the water is crystal clear). Bigger supermarkets just a 5 minute drive away.

"Impressive beachside suburb"
Moved up from Sydney 3 years ago. It has everything you need plus more including fantastic transport with trains and ferry service, great shopping centres including erina fair, not to mention the beautiful beaches. Have been spotting a few celebs here lately too. Ettalong Beach is on the up and up and I'm glad to be a part of it. In the words of Ray Hadley "it is a diamond in the rough"

"Living in paradise!"
Have holiday up here for the past 10 years and finally decided to move our young family up here from Sydney. This place is evolving fast. It will be the new "northern beaches" in no time. Absolutely loving it. The people are so friendly, we go to the beach everyday, go on bike rides every day and dine out at some lovely restaurants in the area. The schools are fantastic and the commute to Sydney on the train is pleasant. It is a relaxing, peaceful place to live. Highly recommend it.

"Moved here from Sydney- great town!"
I don't understand these negative reviews- I find it far less rough than Sydney, quieter, friendlier.

"The next new thing"
Ettalong is an underestimated gem, you have a ferry service to Palm Beach, great buses. At Ettalong your on a beautiful Bay that meanders around and turns into a fantastic small wave beach, excellent for learning to surf, (it also gets big long waves). Everyone is friendly, there are plenty of cafes, restaurants and a picture theater that shows art house films regularly. Ettalong is flat so you can ride your bike around, which people do. If you are commuting to Sydney it is a 60 min train ride away from Woy Woy.

"Loving it so far"
We have been here just over a week now, but fell in love with the area several day's beforehand and immediately made an application to rent a house in the area, which is a stone's throw away from the beach and all local amenities.
The fresh air is amazing, the local's are friendly and approachable.

"Beautiful landscape, shame about the people"
Ettalong Beach is a coastal town an 1hr and a half north of Sydney on the central coast. There's a nice little beach that is great for kids as the water is calm. There seems to be a large retiree community. Geographically the area is beautiful, but unfortunately the people bring the area down. We lived along the Esplanade in Ettalong Beach for 3 years. In the 3 years that we lived there we had our car broken into twice and vandalised 3 times. Alcohol seems to be a big problem in the area. Friday and Saturday nights were hell as people would stagger the streets drunk and would vandalise things in the street. Once a month the phone box in our street would be smashed. It is not uncommon to see teenagers drinking in the streets. The streets were noisy at night as we heard cars doing burnouts around the roundabout, or screeching down the street. I think the area is trying to improve and more people from Sydney are moving to the area, but until they address the issues with alcohol and violence I would not recommend the area.
There is only one "real" nightclub on the Peninsula if you can call it that. It is at Woy Woy Leagues about a 5 minute drive from Ettalong. If you mean pubs open at night then there is the club underneath the Mantra at Ettalong and the Ettalong Pub which are open till late (Especially the Ettalong Pub). The OP did not have a good experience in the area and that is fine. People's mileage will vary. I would encourage you too see the area for yourself though before coming to a conclusion as many people do like the place as well. The area is breathtaking that's for sure.
Where the OP lived was along the Esplanade. This is a beautiful spot, however would have a fair bit of foot traffic as it runs directly along the beachfront from Ettalong to Umina. I would say there is a huge difference between the streets you buy on, on the Peninsula. Ettalong really isn't that bad though in my opinion. I would say crime wise Umina is worse. Ettalong is generally quite peaceful in my experience living here.
We moved from Sydney to this delightful area 9 years ago, and have never encountered any drunks staggering down streets, or noise .we are up in one of the fish streets near all the restaurants, seriously the best move we ever made. Perfect for my grandchildren to come for holidays as not to far to travel, my daughter loves this area so much she is about to make the move with her family, can't wait.
Thanks for an honest review. As I understand it Ettalong has one of two nightclubs on the Peninsular. Were you located near the shops or further North or West? Does it make a difference?
