Excellent suburb with easy access!

A lot to like about Fawkner. Good price for homes so close to cbd. Less than half an hour on the train to city, 10 mins to Brunswick. Small shopping strips scattered throughout. Nice cafes, good food, needs a wine bar though! Good sense of community. Major rd outdoor playgroup is great, as is the leisure centre (closed shortly for a massive upgrade - we can’t wait). Library is cute too, good rhyme time sessions. Some playgrounds need an upgrade, but this is on the cards for a few. Merri creek parklands are just stunning. So peaceful. It’s like you’re in the bush at some parts. Beautiful bird life as a result. Matrix is great for local childcare - friends have their kids there. Fawkner bowls club is wonderful on a Friday night - lots of space for kids to run and play. Local primary schools have good reputations, and change is on the cards for the local high school, with a motivated new principal and direction. It’s quiet here, but we don’t miss the hustle and bustle of Brunswick where we moved from. We are still close enough to enjoy what that offers, while being able to afford a house with a backyard. Come to Fawk! You won’t regret it!

Moved here not long ago.Before i move in i didnt know much about fawkner. After a week we slowly settle down managing our stuff,buying furniture and everything.And i thought of going for a walk and find few places like Smith Reserve,great place for kids, older people and families. U can spend time in library,smiming,excersise for fitness there and football stadium just behind. Just be carefull in the carpark sometimes rough people doing Burn Outs.
JUKES road is quiet popular. U can go for a shopping plenty more in bonwick street, Indian grocery, Veg market,veg and meat,Chinese store, IGA,bank,Post office,pharmacy,kebab shop, Cafe,and plenty morehere, But be careful there lots of cars going in and out u can park behind the street.Straight from jukes road u can go to the Most famous Merri Creek Trail, great for running,walking,meditation in the morning near small river,lots of open space there in Babaji.Moomba park.be careful of the snakes or Kangaroo.donot walk near trail at night.Other popular street are Anderson road,Major road,lynch st,Lorne st,William st,Macbryde st. You can go to the Buddhist temple its peaceful and lots of flowers and trees variety there.In sydney road from coburg north to Western freeway on your left u can find plenty of stores for Automotive,carpet,KFC,Pots,furniture and i am yet to explore coz i never walk there because of the busy road and lots of noise. Memorial park(Cemetry)near there, further up Campbelfield plaze u can shop in Aldi,Kmart,coles,office work, chinese store,And Chemist, Amart, Hungry jacks, Macdonalds toy shop near by.
For travel use fawkner station, and Gowrie station.driving to the city Use Sydney rd and avoid during the pick hour, try Lygon street or pascoe vale road.M80 freeway is close by, easy to go west and north east suburb.U have Hume freeway to go further north.Neighbour suburbs like Broadmedows,Coburg,glenroy,hadfield,Reservoir preston easily accessible by camp road, sydney rd,mohneys rd,hilton st,boundry rd,gaffiny st.
People are nice and friendly.u can see Lots of grand pa and ma doing gardening in their yard which looks lovely while walking.Be aware of the junkies coming from Dallas or campbelfield doing bike burnouts,other then that every thing looks precious.We dont have much for dining but i prefer cooking at home and i dont need nightclub near by me.i can go to coburg or brunswick for that.
For shoping all in one i go to Broadmedows central,Westfield airport west,or Essendon DFo which are 10-15 min drive.few Schools,child care aged care,merri health,fawkner health center ,pathology are near by Jukes road and sydney road. Suburb is safe and good for family and kids, great for walking.i have got plenty more to see here so let you know if anything new.

Lots of Pro's! relatively close to the city, close to train stations and shopping areas, multicultural, quiet and safe, parks and has a creek, close to Sydney road. Schools are not that great though and council should pay more attention to Fawkner

Fawkner is just a suburban wasteland, with no nice parks or fields or anything.

We have lived in Fawkner for over a year, after moving from Coburg. Though not as vibrant as Coburg and Brunswick, these suburbs are still easily accessible via Sydney road or the Merri Creek bike path. We love our spacious home and backyard, a luxury we could not afford in the suburbs just to our south. We live in east Fawkner, near the creek, and enjoy beautiful, vast parkland where we take our dog for walks, as well as the Merri Creek Trail where we go for runs. Our neighbours are friendly and our street is very quiet. Our shopping needs are met on Bonwick Street (which is being upgraded currently by the council) and the other little shopping strips littered throughout the suburb. Campbellfield plaza and Coburg North village are also nice and close. There are lots of good places to get take-away food from and we love our local cafe, The Fork Shop. There are also several schools, and sporting clubs/fields, as well as a large leisure centre and library. The only thing we’re lacking is nightlife, but it’s a short Uber/train ride into Coburg or Brunswick for that, and the city is less than half an hour on the train. Overall, we’re very happy living in Fawkner.

We moved here about 7 months ago now, and got a place near Merri creek. It’s amazing walking and cycling along Merri creek! So beautiful. We really like it here. There are many new immigrants who sadly don’t always understand how illegal rubbish dumping and littering and things like that lowers the quality of life. Sydney road trafic is pretty bad at times and you can spot the Campelfield drivers so watch out for that. There are many awesome restaurants along there as well. Otherwise it’s really quite good. It’s not as trendy as Coburg or Brunswick yet but hopefully Moreland council has some vision to make it vibrant along Sydney road. I’m not too sure that they do, and they might just be puppets of the developers. It is non the less a nice homely suburb with lots of transport options and a bright future
