Lane Cove, NSW 2066

Its easy to see why this is Sydneys most livable suburb aswell and voted #2 in Australia,
Great facilities, super safe and family friendly
Lods of great restaurants, cafes and pubs
Good public transport options and under 15 mins to the CBD on express bus from Lane Cove interchange
Great schools numerous private and public
Lane Cove National park is amazing with great nature walks and lovely spots for a picnic

We enjoyed lots of greenery the area can offer, national parks and walks. You will find plenty of facilities in the village. The best thing about LaneCove is the number of playground’s and family-friendly vibe.
Yet there are also so many negative aspects about living in this area:
- Aircraft noise is awful
- Rent skyrocketed
- Lack of good childcare, most centres here are terrible
- Packed schools
We decided to move suburbs as we couldn’t find a decent childcare to send our kids to.

Lane Cove Is One Of The Best Suburb In North Shore. It's a family oriented community. People that lived here are generation after generation.
It has ticked all the lists
-School Not just limited to public school also some of the top private school in between Lane cove and Longueville
- Station Bus intersection is here. And there are multiple choices to CBD and upper north shore
- Shop The Canopy Shopping Plaza was the center for
lots of Boutiques Shop. My personal favorite one is CakeMan
- Sports & Leisure There is a big Aquatic Center
- Safety One of the top five safest suburb in NSW

Great shopping centre, fantastic restaurants and bars in The Canopy, family-friendly suburb. Blackman Park is superb for kids and dogs alike..

We are relatively new to the area, renting an older apartment on Cope St. It has been a nice area to spend lockdown with access to lots of parks and trails that follow the watercourses in the area. The urban wildlife is lovely with lots of bird. Locals in Lane Cove compared to other areas of Sydney from our experience seem to be quite unfriendly. People rarely smile or greet you if you cross paths with them on a walk for example. There are a lot of old people in the area and they have time to nit pick and write passive aggressive notes. We used the "wrong" clotheslines and car washing bay when we moved into our complex. Instead of someone coming out and telling us they left nasty notes in our letter box. Very neighbourly!
Access to the city in peak hours is quite fast via express busses such as 251. Outside of peak hour it can take over an hour to get home if you have to make your way from the Southern end of the CBD via public transport. You can cycle into the city via the Freeway / Harbour bridge, it is fairly well connected. On the way back from the CBD the cycle paths are less direct as you have to detour via North Sydney.
There are lots of nice shops and restaurants in the main centre. In non-covid times traffic through the Lane Cove area along Epping Rd, Pacific Hwy and Centennial Ave. is appalling and usually grid-locked as lots of people in the area seem to drive everywhere. Lane Cove is under the flight paths so at times can be noisy. The tree-lined streets and lovely character filled old homes seem to gradually being replaced with apartments and ugly tasteless duplex / townhouse developments. It is a quiet area better suited to old people and families. There is not a lot of life outside of business hours for younger people.

Moved to Lane Cove recently. Since moving here, I have had my car broken into twice, storage cage was ransacked, bike stolen. The area does not have a police station. Car parking is also terrible anywhere near the bus stops to get into town. I would not recommend the area, and they are not that friendly to outsiders.

Quiet, natural. Bus to the CBD is becoming VERY overcrowded. This place is a small pocket of peace between Epping and Chatswood that is gradually becoming overdeveloped. Not in a traditional sense, as there is still plenty of space, but in that there are fast becoming way too many people for the transport services to cope with.

Major pluses to moving here:
Very quiet and peaceful area - no crime, no out of control parties.
Large playground and open space for children on Mindarie street - great for families in the area.
Tenants in the more modern apartments are mostly working professionals - They are quiet and respectful of neighbors.
Plenty of street parking along the streets lining the apartment complexes - Good for long term visitors.

Cons of living here:
Getting onto a CBD bound bus in the morning is a painful experience - If you get on very early in the route, you can nab a seat. If you get on at the Lane Cove interchange you will be waiting and watching a few buses fly right past you simply because they are too full to allow any more people on. Then you do finally get a bus, you will be packed on like a sardine for the next 20 minutes, pressed up against 50 or so other standing people. Same experience for the bus ride home. I personally walk further to get on a stop that's close to the start of the route exiting the city to avoid this. If you are an introvert you will find this an extremely stressful experience.

Some of the newer apartments are starting to show age already (think Opal tower, Mascot apartments etc.) - mold, cracks, plumbing issues, waste disposal problems etc. Not a massive deal if just renting but I would never purchase these apartments that have seemingly popped up like weeds overnight. A good long term investment they would not make. Keep an eye out.

Good and bad:
Rent's Cheap - Good for a renter, bad for a landlord. There's thousands of apartments here and you're competing to rent them out. The price is a race to the bottom.

4 generations of family have been living in Lane Cove area over 100 years and its a great place. I call it a "go to place "as you go to Lane Cove to shop, eat , go to the library, use the public pool or gym, meet friends , go to the bank, Dr and Solicitor. Lane Cove has it all. The shopping centre has benefited greatly from the Market square upgrade from a few years ago and so far the apartments which are springing up close to the town centre look nice and seem to blend in with the village atmosphere. Buses on tap to the City and if you want to drive its a 10-15min drive to town.

I like the area as it has a blend of young and older residents and many young families are moving in bringing a new dynamic to the area. There are an abundance of primary schools in the area so plenty of choice- unfortunately no High School so kids have to go elsewhere for High School.

Its close to the city, close to shopping centres like Chatswood and Macquarie Centre. Lane Cove is a great place to live and I wouldn't live anywhere else.
