"Best of all world"

What a wonderful place to live. So peaceful and quiet, beautiful and close enough to the bigger town if in need of bigger shopping centres. Trendy little cafes on your door step and the Warburton trail in your back yard (well almost!). A 24/7 gym, super market, several good primary schools and good sceondary schools (also 2 private schools) in nearby neighbourhood.

"Country feel yet close to train at lilydale and chirnsude park shopping centres."

Mt Evelyn is a good place to live with families, if you can buy acreage, your kids will love the bush, building cubbies, have a few animals, ride motorbikes , climbing trees and generally the outdoors and fresh air. Cons: there still are dirt roads in some streets with pot holes, gum trees that fall down in the storms, and some houses are built on hilly blocks. It's about choosing carefully the block. I've lived here for 30 years and my family won't shift anywhere else !! The schools are good, the CFA is good, the shops are good, plenty of hairdressers (shear obsession the best), library, post office and two banks. Good meteors basketball club, football, netball, athletics, karate, tennis clubs, gyms. I like that I can get to ringwood east land shops quickly or to the freeway to go to the city. Also good that you are close to the Yarra valley for the weekends. The population has grown a lot and the main street gets pretty busy these days. Nice to have an open fire and own wood, and that kids and teenagers can make noise without bothering neighbours. AAAAAplus!!!

  • Friendly locals
  • Good shopping

Not great for

  • Dirt roads and pot holes

"Nice town in Melbourne's outskirts"

Mount Evelyn is a nice place to live, Like anywhere in the area I suppose. Fairly peaceful, although there are some knobs (graffiti vandals and such)
If you want to live here, make sure you have a car, as public transport from here is terrible, 2 buses come through, about once an hour, the Chirnside Park-Ringwood route, and the Lilydale-Monbulk route, that is the full extent of public transport. taxis take forever to get here and the train line was closed in the 60s.
There are several cafes, fish and chip shops and plenty of small businesses, an IGA for your groceries, a Commonwealth bank, a Bendigo bank, Subway, 3 pizza shops, a bar, a library and a 24 hour gym. There is a servo, but many people will not use it, due to bad experiences in the past with poor quality petrol. I have no idea if they're better now as I haven't bought petrol there in years.
The service at the post office is a little poor, not as good as Montrose.

I've lived here 20 years and seen it grow from edge of the bush to vibrant little town. Nature and conveniences come together w Canterbury Rd and Maroondah Highway to city within minutes. Bought petrol here over the years. No problem at all. I bought rustic home on very steep block w panoramic valley views which keep me here. Unfortunately, 20 years on, too steep as I get older. Unfortunately properties now too expensive so have to move. Would stay if I could.

maybe if you lived in the city you would have spectacular phone reception, maybe if you live in the city you would have good roads and no dirt on your road and maybe if you stop being such a princess with your toyota hilux stop complaining.

I literally didn't mention any of the things you came back with. I wasn't even complaining, I gave the place 4 stars and I love it here. I was telling people what to expect. I bet you don't even live here.

I'd also like to update that the Post Office is a lot better these days after the new management took over, and the Servo has improved. Public transport has not.

"A wonderful, safe, healthy, beautiful place to raise a family. So many amenities for young families."

It is a community minded little village, with affordable housing, lovely neighbours, good schools and good public places such as the library and morrision house. We have moved interstate to Mount Evelyn and highly recommend it for raising a family, in a safe caring community.
