Reviews of Narre Warren, VIC
"Two side to this suburb"
I lived both north and south of the freeway. North was OK, chilled, relatively safe with lots of families... The southern side, wow! Rough and nasty. Sadly, most people (not all) don't have pride in their homes, cars on nature strips, hoon's all night, and poor quality builds.
In general the area is car dominated! Traffic is life! The train is unreliable and dirty, but it beats 3 hours a day in the car. The area can feel hostile and aggressive, its not because everyone is horrible, its just the traffic!
Walking is discouraged by the layout, and massive roads that are difficult to cross. There are some nice neighbourhood walks, just be careful at night.
Personally I didn't find much good food or cafes, but nearby Berwick has good food and drink.
So, if you're happy to drive EVERYWHERE then Narre is OK, but AVOID south of the freeway!
"I love my town, it has everything you could need and more."
It’s a friendly town, where the majority of people smile and say hello to strangers and friends alike when walking. It feels safe and welcoming.
Narre Warren has lots of lovely parks and walking trails, with water, birds, trees and shrubs in abundance. My favorite at the moment is the Hallam Valley trail.
We have lots of fantastic
Cafes and several shopping centres to choose from. Enormous places like Fountain Gate and small and more intimate shopping centers.
We have several markets and farmers markets close by.
Narre Warren has a fantastic world class theatre which brings all kinds of live performances from every genre. Bunjil Place offers multiple activities for all ages all year round, free or at reasonable cost.
There are many great schools to choose from in the area. Including public, private and selective schools.
Narre Warren is well placed to access the country, the city, the coast or the snow.
There is great internet connections in the area, so running a business from home is easy.
There are a huge number of different sporting facilities available in the area. No matter what you’re into I’m sure you will find it near by.
There is a huge number of interest groups to join to socialise, meet friends and welcome new people to the community. From arts, music, social, sports, academic or IT, there really is something for everyone.
Great public transport, roads and freeway links.
There are a huge range of people of all ages and homes big and small to suit everyone.
There are ample options for child care and we have several private and public hospitals nearby.
I love my town.

"Great family friendly suburb"
Moved to Narre Warren 2 years ago and I am very impressed. Friendly neighbours , good schools, fresh air, plenty of parks and council activities for the kids to keep busy, Bunjil Place and fountain Gate around the corner and affordable (for now).

"What a change"
Well Narre Warren is such a big suburb, stretching from the south bordering Cranbourne to Noth bordering on Endeavour Hills and lysterfield. From our time in the suburb we found the closer you are to the north the " better pocket you are in" or at least that was the perception.
Traveling to the CBD in peak hour is a nightmare (although its the same anywhere 20 km from the CBD) as for negatives that's all I can think off, maybe the odd Hoon here and there, but I find that everywhere.
Excellent shopping near by (Fountain Gate).
Hospitals and Medical centers close by.
Great Schools both public and Private.
Crime is not a huge issue, homes (in our pocket) are well maintained and looked after, neighbors are quiet but friendly. Plenty of open spaces and near by parks as well as National Parks, easy driving distance to the bay or the Dandenongs is great. Narre Warren station helps those that use PT and the restaurants both within Narre and around Fountain Gate are great and more can be found within a short drive to Berwick.
If you dont have to travel to the city for work or at least have some flexibility when traveling, Narre Warren and surrounds are a great place to be.

"Has its many flaws but huge living potential"
I've come from the inner blue chip suburbs of Melbourne, grown up there my whole life and have only just bought my first property in Narre Warren obviously because of it's affordability. What i take from this so far is that it's a great "kick-start" area if you have visions of one day moving closer in or to a more reputable area. We are right near fountain Gate so a massive tick to amenities - everything we need is at our feet! Traffic within the suburb is quite a problem i find. Princess Hwy and Cranbourne-Narre Warren Roads are the only main arterial roads that go through the suburb so lots of built up traffic. Pointing out hoons as mentioned from other posts is a big problem. I constantly hear cars roaring up and down streets day and night although luckily my street isn't affected. Keep in mind guys that this is now a booming suburb. 2 years ago (2015/16) the median value for the 3 br house was around the mid 400K range, now you're looking at north of 600K so great capital growth especially for first home buyers wanting to get in the market and potentially sell at a higher price sooner than later. For those of you looking at your first home be quick as you'll have stamp duty savings on any purchase under 600K, you won't pay a cent on stamp duty. In response to the posts about bogans and agro neighbors etc, i would definitely agree with the bogan statement. Lot's of loud and obnoxious people around this area that don't have any sense for the community but then again it does depend on where you're located. This goes back to my point about hoons... These bogans are exactly that! Cruising around in their clapped out $500 VN Commodores thinking that they drive a Bentley. If you're fortunate enough to be situated in a tucked away quiet street you may avoid this but otherwise it's something you can' avoid. as a plus my neighbors are just perfect, polite, kind and welcoming. They came around a knocked on my door when i moved in for a quick chat and let me know about the area and street even told if i needed to use their bin during renos i could! As a rule of thumb it doesn't matter where you buy or rent always be vigilant of your surrounds, types of people in your street and your neighbors. You might not think it but this makes a world of difference when you end up living there.

"Ticks all the boxes"
I love Narre Warren because it has lots of greenery, homes with matured gardens, lots of parks for the kids, a great range of schools, a huge shopping centre, lots of options for dining out, good recreational facilities, mixed housing and good mix of people moving into the area. It is an up and coming suburb in south east Melbourne, council investment and development I think will see this suburb continue to grow and thrive in a corridor where population growth is booming. With technology and growing job opportunities in the south east there is no real need to live near Melbourne CBD. Narre Warren is also a great place for those with growing families that need that house with a decent size backyard and space for storage. Narre Warren is its own little city, foot of the Dandenongs, next door to beautiful Berwick and the rolling hills of Beaconsfield.

"Changing suburb"
Positives: Narre Warren is changing, better class of people compared to what it use to be. Never have to go into central Melbourne, everything I need is near. New large scale business district forming that will compete with the city.
Negative: A lot of trash do pass through the area, some Real Estate agents can put bad people in rentals that upset the neighborhood, but we property owners are onto them.

"You couldn't pay me to live in NW and NWS. Narre North however...."
Having lived in the 'south' area before I would never go back there again. So many people who take 0 pride in their homes and gardens- perhaps its due to being too tired travelling to and from work..
There is horrific traffic everywhere- every street seems to be clogged, people are all aggro because of it, and frankly, I don't know how people can maintain their sanity commuting to the city each day.
This area is best for retirees, who don't need to travel anywhere fast.
Narre North, on the other hand is quiet, beautiful, uncongested and people take pride in their neighbourhoods- you pay for the privilege, however.
Having said this I moved to the bayside area (Aspendale). Best decision ever, great schools, laid back attitude (beach helps), houses are not as crammed in, and real good sense of community spirit.
Great for
- Convenient to Shopping
- Great Parks
Not great for
- Lack of decent PT, especially southside.
- Quite a few hoons
- People seem more aggro
- If you work in the City then it is a long drive

"Busy family suburb"
Until recently i lived in Narre Warren North and over the 12 years that i lived there, i have watched it develop and change in many ways. There were paddocks of vacant land surrounding the house when i first moved to Narre Warren, now there are many estates and new homes where it is difficult to find spare land.
The shopping center (Fountain Gate) has experienced large renovations making it the biggest int he South East. The suburb is at least 40km from the city and the freeway in which you use to access the city is the Monash. This is very congested in peak times and it may take you nearly 2 hours of travel time. I found is frustrating travelling and would need to add extra time allowance out of my day to travel to work which limited my options of employment.
Great for
- Convenient to Shopping
Not great for
- If you work in the City then it is a long drive
- But you can always take a public transport

"Great Place to Live and Raise your family"
We have been Living in Narre Warren for 5 yrs now and to be honest i don't have any complain or any problem till now. I travel to city by public transport and wife drive to work, shopping in Westfield Fountain Gate is great and easy lots of new good retailers coming up recently. Enjoy Village cinema, local pubs and food places for weekend. Beautiful park Sweeney Reserve with lots of Sports oval and games happening, enjoy with your full family watching games :)
Neighbor suburb Berwick has it own charm and aura, local cafes and restaurant, Sunday market is good.
Property prices are quite decent with all these facilities i must say, but since we have moved it have grown value.

"Surprisingly huge shopping centre"
The best thing here is the westfield shopping center. Except of lacking the luxury brands, it is probably bigger and more varieties than Chadstone.

"Great place for family with kids!"
I have been living in the Oatlands Estate for 4 years, it's such a good place with nice views and facilities. Good school within walking distance from my home too! Lysterfield park is nearby as well, where I often go mountain biking, picnic or even just bush walking. I really enjoy living here. Great lifestyle.

"Not the best place to live"
I have recently rented in Narre but really don't like it, It is full of hoons, yobbos, the socio economic group is poor and this is reflected in the people you see on the street, down at the local shopping centre Fountain Gate and at a very busy Centrelink car park. The traffic in the area is horrendous on most days also. My street is particularly dark with a very seedy feel, the neighbours all keep to themselves and are unfriendly and were unwelcoming when I first moved in. The houses are old, unattractive and I am moving out ASAP to an area with some class - far away from Narre Warren!!!!

""Great Place to Live""
My family and I have lilved in Narre Warren for nearly 21 years in Oatlands Estate and it has been a great place to live. We have seen many changes for the better. Fountain Gate Shopping Centre has all anyone needs and is still growing. With Freeway access to the city if you must go to the city is great. Only takes 40 minutes off peak to get in there but only if you have to is my thoughts. People for years have said "Oh you are so far from the city." I always say well I dont go to the city maybe once or twice a year there is no need to. Everything is here that one needs.
The people are great and friendly. The schooling is superb and you have a great choice of schools to choose from. The medical support is excellent.
What more does anyone want? If you are looking for a great place to live then really think about Narre Warren it is a lovely suburb to come to and be from.

"Great place to live for young families"
Been living in Narre Warren now for 5 years and never looked back on the move, consider ourselves very lucky to have bought when we did. We have experience great capital growth within a short period of time.We live in a quiet street and the neighbours are always friendly and they look after each other. When we first moved in we accidentally left the garage door open and our next door neighbour closed it for us.
As for the facilities and amenities you cannot ask for more, everything is literally a stone throw away...You are at the heart of everything with Fontaine Gate shopping centre, Bunnings,Casey Arc leisure centre just around the corner .Easy access to the freeway will take you about 40 mins to the city if you are not experiencing any traffic that is!
If you have young ones you will also enjoy going for walk to the park or even just a casual jog or taking your pet friend for a walk.
Overall Narre Warren in my opinion is a great place to live and i think is highly understated. In the next 5 to 6 years it will experience even more growth and will be a well sorted after suburb.

"Sad boring country life - Customised for the poor!"
Narre Warren, where do I start? The area is cheap due to its isolation in the expanding south east corridor, hence cheapness attracts a large sector of the negative stereotypes in our society, ie. Bogans. There are many hoons also around the area and although some parts are quiet, most aren't. Public transport is also terrible with buses operating infrequently. The area's growth will be slow with the oversupply of houses and substandard isolated location. The travel time to get to the city is terrible and the trains are also infrequent being on only one line. Schools are obviously rubbish with the boganised area carrying a number of schools which perform at the very bottom of the VCE rankings. Traffic is also terrible with the large influx of residents who cannot afford to buy anywhere decent. Nightlife.. well there is none unless you enjoy a night in a paddock full of cows. Mobile reception is also terrible, I get like 2 bars and usually struggle to get 3G when I'm visiting my investment property in Narre Warren. Also you will be treated like your from the bottom of society when people realise your from Narre. White gangs crowd around Fountain Gate with the bogan population thriving in summer. It really is a skid mark on society in many ways.
James i don't know where you live but i can tell you that you have no idea what you are talking about. I would suggest you get your facts right before you list that sort of rubbish.
James, why are you having investment property in such a bad suburb? I think you should review all suburbs before writing like this. Not even 1% true.
lovenarre - true dat! :D james - stop being stingy and get a telstra phone, and then talk about coverage... loser...
"Great for starting out families"
It's a good suburb for those starting out in the property market and want to own a large or adequate family-sized home near facilties and are priced out of Berwick. Westfield Fountain Gate is close by and perhaps has the largest influence on the suburb. Transport is available at the local station but the Monash highway can get busy in peak hour.
The only downside is the growing nature of the suburb and Fountain Gate is a bit of a double-edged sword - as the suburb gets busier and busier it might get less attractive - too much fast food and a Californian US style culture. I know a family who moved there when there were open fields and they say it is in danger of becoming another bland SE suburb. It might also attract a bit of a hoon element.

"Affordable & Convenient - A great Investment"
With all the mod cons that today's society requires and easy access to the City, Mornington Peninsula, Dandenong Ranges and Gippsland, Narre Warren has a lot to offer home buyers. The ever expanding Westfield Fountain Gate has everything that the family or shopaholic alike needs. There is a swag of public transport at your disposal with buses and trains readily available at regular times. Great medical facilities including a 24hr medical centre and the new casey hospital are all only moments away. A variety of schools, public & private as well as a selection of child care centres makes it a great place for raising kids. All of this and more with a median price of approximately $360,000 makes Narre Warren not only affordable, but also a great investment.

Were u in the centrelink car park yourself? Your review is very narrow minded. Funny I have lived here for 32 years and don't see yobbos hoons in our street! maybe that is why you are still a renter you don't have the brains to save!
