Always feel unsafe here only pass thru when i have no other choice, the amount of riff raff from here that likes to joy ride on tram. Just don't go unless u absolute need to.

This is a really convenient suburb close to everything. Love it here!

Southport is going downhill very quickly. Look at the number of empty shops these days.
Homeless people are wreaking havoc on this once quaint area. It's not uncommon to find human faeces on the footpaths and witness people urinating on the footpaths also. Brawls, people with obvious mental health issues cursing people as they walk by, terrible traffic congestion (caused mainly by the tram), all paid parking, buildings that were demolished over 10 years back are still vacant blocks in the cbd.
The only thing that has kept the business community afloat was the introduction of the the China town theme,thank God for that. The Broadwater has been ruined by tourists operators in helicopter joy flights, jet boat rides, aqua duck rides and other touristy noisy rides polluting the area. Southport has always been a low cost housing area for people who are struggling with life. Sorry, but it just doesn't have anything going for it.

Lived on GC 20 yrs moved to 3yrs ago Southport due to excellent public transport, close to shops and broadwater. Everything is in Southport. Cheap to buy in comparison to other suburbs.
Homeless an issue in cbd but never felt unsafe.
Most underated suburb in Australia.

Love it!!

We have been living in Southport for nearly 4 years, after buying our current home. This is our favourite place we have ever lived. We feel very safe and our street is full of lovely people who take pride in their homes. We have gorgeous views of the skyline and getting around is so quick. It is such a convenient place to live and there is tons of fun things to do, great places to eat etc. If you are new to the Coast, do yourself a favour and consider Southport for your new home in the best city in Australia.

Southport used to have a bad name, but it has improved 1000% in the 10 years I've been living here , a lot of the cheaper apartments are coming down and boutique ones in their place.

There has been an influx of young Chinese students, who make great neighbors as they are a quite, humble & friendly lot .

Everything great about the Gold Coat lifestyle is here, shopping, Cafe's , pubs, parks, water but without the young tourist.

You don't need a car to live here but the only negative if you do is the area is mostly paid parking.

Have a place in the NSW Southern Highlands, love being there for a slow down but love the vibrancy of being up north for part of the year.

We bought our first home in leafy streets of Southport. Walking distance to the beach, medical facilities, schools and shopping centres. Large parks everywhere. The restaurant scene is awesome too.
As the Gold Coast is expanding so rapidly way out on the freeway with concrete ghettos like Coomera with no trees, transport ect ( sorry Coomera), we are stoked with the return we're looking at on our investment. (If we ever move)
