Reviews of Winton, QLD

"Winton - Outback town with plenty of history."

Winton is located 900 ms west of Rockhampton and was originally known as Pelican Waterhole. The area has several claims to fame such as Australian Bush Poetry as it is in Winton that AB Patterson wrote Waltzing Matilda. Just as important is the fact that Winton is also the birthplace of Qantas which was started here in 1920. For those interested in archeology, the skeleton of the largest dinosaur found in Australia, called a sauropd, was uncovered in Winton. Visit the opal fields, Arno’s wall and visit the Mitchell Grass Plains and see Coolabah trees and Prickly Acacia. There are plenty of shops for all your needs and accommodation in offered in caravan and camping parks, motel and hotels. There are restaurants and clubs serving good quality meals.
