Hi I lived in Cairns for 8 years a while ago, I believe Surfers is probably safer, BUT, I would think twice about living in Surfers itself, when there are great options next door, for example Main Beach, 10minutes walk/bike to Surfers, beautiful restaraunts, no idiot drunks at 2 am, mostly residential, Parks/ The Spit, close to Southport for Major Shopping etc.You will love it! Happy home hunting.
