Lived here for 7 months now, Love the location, beach, restaurants, Macintosh Park, So nice to cycle or stroll to Surfers, Southport or down to the Spit, Yes its bit more expensive than some other suburbs but totally worth it. Tedder Avenue great for watching the Rich and Famous, If you buy an apartment make sure it has 2 car parks if you have 2 cars, as street parking can be a challenge. Main Beach is a bit more civilised than most Gold Coast Suburbs, as it is mainly Residential. Public Transport pretty good too, bus to Train Stations and Major shopping. But so nice to walk anywhere. Glad we are here

Hope you didnt buy property in the last 2 years in Surfers, you would have experienced a "correction", (Dramatic Drop) in Values, with no real sign that its slowing, I have been inspecting Real Estate in Surfers/Broadbeach over the last couple of weeks,(with a view to buy) and the stories are getting scarier by the day, Just look at Apartments for sale on this Real Estate site for evidence.
Apartments sold originally for 1 million plus being offered as low as $600,000, -not exactly a good investment! Has it gone as low as it can?The media say no, and the Real Estate Experts say yes. (surprise). Of course no-one really knows, but it would be brave Investor/Residential Buyer, to put their Hard-Earned Cash down at the moment, -Yes it will bounce back , but its not looking like its any time soon.
Surfers now enjoys a reputation for violent crime/hooliganism/drunken idiots/schoolies/rapes/traffic problems/noise at night , and drug abuse, -but do you know what.... its still has fantastic beaches, beautiful hinterland , and lots of things for families to do, just make sure your back in your accomodation when the sun goes down.
I used to bring my family here for holidays in the 70's and 80's it was just the best place in the world then.
I'll keep looking for the right place to buy,maybe it WILL be better in the future, (I hope so.)
