I would say yes, because I was a single when I moved here 8 years ago. But, there is practically no night life here. I used to take my bike to the bars in other nearby neighborhoods. Of course, those neighborhoods cost more to live in, so I had cheaper rent and more money to spend in bars elsewhere. If you're a student at UIC or the medical district, there will be other singles like you in the area.
This area is mostly populated by singles. Housing here is pretty inexpensive and it is very easy to get around with public transit. Crime is still an issue here though. Try to avoid S. Western Ave., which seems to be the central point of most of the criminal activity in the area.
Absolutely, the Tri-Taylor neighborhood is great for singles. The University is close by, as is Greek Town and Little Italy, and there's plenty of bars and restaurants for a single guy or gal to enjoy. It's also not too expensive, so that's a huge bonus!
