I live in west tweed, near seagulls we have a house on the canal, quite neighbour young families to retirees. Yes if you drive past certain parts of Kennedy drive there is sketchy looking people, or homeless people at the front of tweed mall. In saying that there is plenty of homeless people in Coolangatta too.

just found this website and wanted to add some advice for anyone looking to move to tweed heads. I’ve lived in the area my whole life, as mentioned above there are “bad parts” in any place you go to. Tweed heads west isn’t actually a “bad suburb” it’s just one spot in the area namely Kennedy drive and connecting streets off it, go a bit further up the road around crystal waters and that is a very expensive area and beautiful. Jacaranda Avenue tweed heads west when I lived there, a lot of retired people. I currently live in west tweed and know people who live in the street over and it’s not bad at all it’s just certain parts. If you look at the area and see cheap rent that’s usually a give away if it’s $100-200 less than other places that it’s not a great area. Banora was a good spot as I had lived there as a kid and there are parts of banora that are crap. It’s literally the same in every suburb there are certain streets or areas I would avoid, unless you speak to a local your probably not going to know what places are good or bad..

As for the cost- way overpriced.. rentals have gone up by $100-200 sometimes more, it is a joke!

Same sex couples- I know a few same sex couples With families and I’ve never heard of any issues with living in tweed.

Hello, I've just found this post - we are looking at a property on Panorama Dr West Tweed Heads - is that area ok? Thank you for your feedback - I appreciate your rationale - we are currently in Canberra and indeed every suburb has its good and bad parts and residents so I think it's important to have a balanced view :)

Hi just looking around tweed heads is this a safe area plus good places around .thankyou

I've been living in South Tweed for 6 months. Lived in the Gold coast for 18 years prior to moving to Tweed. Some people think Tweed Heads as being a bit behind and boring. Thought It was a quiet street at first, but this didn't last long. Weekly domestics loud people swearing fighting can go all hours of the night. someone constantly thrashing unlicensed dirt bikes up and down the street all weekend. And no one does anything about it. Saw a homeless man yelling abuse and threatening another man with his you know what in broad daylight on Minjumble Drive can honestly say it's another world here in the Tweed. If you meet any one here who stays away from the drink etc very nice down to earth people and Tweed is more chill than the Gold coast. Have to find the right street ask neighbours in the Street before moving in if there is any riff Raff so you can avoid it. I had a friend who lived in Tweed Heads West off pigabeen road was always nice and quiet out that way

tweed heads is similar to labrador and biggera waters on the Gold Coast, go to the local shopping centers and look at the type of people that are there these will be your neighbors and locals. Tweed City, you can see the drugs in the face of the people its bad. I work all over the GC and NSW and would not recommend Tweed heads to anyone, low income, cheap rent, drug hub for traffickers between NSW and QLD.

I agree with OZlocal but I would include Byron in the same category as Tweed.
I would suggest you have a good look at my area of Tyalgum, I don't believe you would be disappointed.
There are a number of same sex couples settled in a welcoming community.

Ummm... I visit tweed heads a lot and I honestly wouldn't recommend it. I think Byron Bay would be a lot more suited to your situation. It's a very diverse town with friendly people and great facilities. I'm sure you would love it there. Good luck! Ask me any more questions if you need to.

Why wouldnt you recommend tweed heads? We looking to move there next year..but tweed south. We were told to avoid tweed west. Byron bay is just too far from good Coast

Hi, I am the same question as you. I have also heard to avoid tweed heads west, well it was either avoid tweed west or tweed south and I cant remember which one it was? I am looking to purchase in one of these areas but would appreciate confirmation on wether it is actually TH south or TH west avoid. Many thanks

There is nothing wrong with Tweed Heads, you get good and not so good people throughout every town in Australia. Remembering Tweed Heads is a huge holiday location, and many people there are actually holidaying, or have popped over the boarder from the Gold Coast, or from further down south. The Tweed is a beautiful part of the world to live in, great weather, beautiful natural scenery, good infrastructure and developing further.. a great place for anyone. People need to not be so quick to judge people by their appearance...
