Maribyrnong

"Maribyrnong - "I hear a ringtail possum'"

The greatest attraction for Maribyrnong is the river. It snakes through the suburb and has beautiful parks surrounding it and great bike and walking tracks. There are lots of buses and Trams No 57 and 82 run via Maribyrnong Road however, because there is no train, it can take up to 50 minutes to get to the city centre by tram - frustrating when the suburb is 7-9km away from the city.
I have lived in the area for 14 years and have seen the prices go from strength to strength. It is definitely a place that is improving in price. The new defence site redevelopment will totally change the face of the suburb (for the better) and hopefully this will bring with it better infrastructure and some strategies for reducing traffic (Maribyrnong Road can get very busy with two tram routes and traffic from Highpoint).
There are plenty of gyms in the area and of course Highpoint. The suburb lacks a restaurant strip but there is good dining at Il Palazzo. Anglers Tavern is a nice place to hang out and relax by the river, especially during the summer.
There is no public primary school in the suburb but there is one nearby in Footscray.
Students (Maribyrnong is home to Victoria University student village), single people and families live here so it has a nice mix.
The only downside is there isn't really a shopping street or centre to Maribyrnong because Highpoint is the focus.
