Castlemaine

"View from here"

Castlemaine is community. There's a whole bunch of people who are really into their thing doing their thing here. And they all get on, in the 'maine. It's looked over by applely Mt Alexander and vintage Leanganook, a stone's throw from misty Mt Franklin and Daylesford. It's got doctors, swimming holes, golf courses, mtb tracks, and goldfields galore, it's got cafes, a few knock out restaurants, a lot of okay ones. It's got people who'll talk to you on the street in the sun, people who'll dance with you. It's got people to hot rod and rockabilly with, people to yoga with, people to meditate with. It's got a hospital to heal you, and a bunch of watering holes to set the long afternoons amber. You can listen to poets or quiet or to live bands. The winters get fair drawn in so, be prepared, but the green chill has blue skies - the frosts are bracing, but the fires are warm and thermals are cheap, and chopping wood 'l get you hot anyhow. The train'll take you to Melbourne in under 1hr and a half, and the Conductors express will get you back in just over an hour in the busy afternoon. Cinema? Check. Close to Bendigo? Check. Expensive and monopolized IGA? Check! But really? How much of our experience is about how we notice where we are? how much do we make our own place to live? Sure, take a look, and you might see something completely different.
