Tighes Hill

"Great up and coming suburb"

Tighes Hill is a great place to buy that's not too expensive but is still close to everything.

After renting in Tighes Hill for 2 years (prior to that we rented for 18 months in the nearby suburb of Islington), my fiance and I bought a home in Tighes Hill because as a young couple, we enjoy all that this suburb has to offer. Tighes Hill (Henry Street and Park Road are the two streets we have lived in) has nice quiet streets with very little traffic (Elizabeth Street really is the only street that gets much non-residential traffic) and beautiful old homes. The neighbours are friendly and many people who live in Tighes Hill are young professionals who may be buying first homes or renting, as well as young families, as it's not too expensive to buy here. Many people who buy in Tighes Hill do so with renovating in mind, so in the future it will become even nicer.

Tighes Hill is a great suburb if you like the outdoors, with a number of parks (including one which you can take dogs off their leashes) so is great for dog owners. Also has a great walking/cycling track that leads you to all the way to Honeysuckle; we often walk it to go to the fish co-op... Also a great area for people who are into food/coffee as busy Beaumont Street is only 2 mins drive, or about 15 mins walk. Many supermarkets close by (Coles Waratah is 5-10 mins by car, Woolies Mayfield is 2 mins by car) as well as pubs and a bottle-o, and Islington post office/newsagent is only a 10 min walk away. Tighes Hill has a TAFE campus, which means a number of buses pass along the main road and there is a train station only 10-15 min walk away. Tighes Hill Public School is has a great reputation as being one of the great public primary schools in Newcastle, which was an important factor for my fiance and I who will be starting a family some time in the future...

As someone else said, unfortunately Tighes Hill has a reputation of being a rough-ish suburb, but it really is a great place to live with everything you need nearby.

The park is rough at night time near the creek, beware of that after dark. But ARTC the clowns can't manage the coal train problem. BE WARNED prospective buyers, NOISE NOISE NOISE, them trains go 24/7 past our door step. (At least I am honest about this). The rest thats been listed is true mostly. Nice Nice area, But SCREEEEEEEEEEEECH, BANG, SQUEEEEEEEEEEL, SCREEEEEEECH................
