Kelso

"Kelso at night"

One of the more dangerous suburbs of Townsville to be wandering around at night alone.

What a load of cods wallop. Kelso is quite safe. Have a look at the Towsville Bulletin's Crimewatch site. Very little property or violent crime in the area. There's more in so called safe suburbs like Douglas and Kirwan, where you pay up to triple for a house.

I'd say it's hit-and-miss. I've lived here for 6 years (after moving from Kirwan) and have had my share of wild neighbourhood experiences. I think the Crimewatch stats are unreliable as they focus on reported crime. Many of the goings-on in Kelso may well go unreported. In the area where I live, I'd say there's a fair number who don't want to attract too much attention.
That said, if you keep your wits about you, lock your doors or at least your security screens at night and don't wander down alleys unless you can see that they're clear, there's not much to worry about. I run and ride around Kelso after dark and have never feared for my safety. At home, I've had the odd thing taken from my yard (including my letterbox [?!!]), but nobody has ever tried to get into my house and nobody has ever attempted to harm me. Kelso problems are just the problems of suburbia.
