Howard

"Close enough to be handy, far away enough to be quiet"

Howard is a sweet little town, close enough to the centres of Maryborough and Hervey Bay to be convenient, but far enough away to be quiet and safe. There are 2 small supermarkets that stock pretty much everything you need. Not great for a weekly shop (bit expensive) but great if you've run out of milk, chicken food, or flea treatment for the dog. Only a 6 minute drive to Torbanlea State School which won educator of the year 2013 for the Fraser Coast Region; although Howard does have a small public school of its own.
Has a great community spirit. The local community centre hosts a variety of activities through the year. Home to Burrum Coal Discovery Festival (2013 Regional Tourist Event of the Year Finalist)
There is a public bus that goes to Maryborough, but not frequently. The TiltTrain stops in at Howard Train Station. Other than that, though, there is no public transport.

Great for

  • Safe & Quiet
  • Close to excellent schools
  • Good community spirit

Not great for

  • Predominantly retiree population
  • Not a lot of growth, progress is slow
  • Public transport options are almost zero

Who lives here?

  • Families with kids
  • Retirees
  • Country Lovers
