Reviews of Howard, QLD

"Close enough to be handy, far away enough to be quiet"

Howard is a sweet little town, close enough to the centres of Maryborough and Hervey Bay to be convenient, but far enough away to be quiet and safe. There are 2 small supermarkets that stock pretty much everything you need. Not great for a weekly shop (bit expensive) but great if you've run out of milk, chicken food, or flea treatment for the dog. Only a 6 minute drive to Torbanlea State School which won educator of the year 2013 for the Fraser Coast Region; although Howard does have a small public school of its own.
Has a great community spirit. The local community centre hosts a variety of activities through the year. Home to Burrum Coal Discovery Festival (2013 Regional Tourist Event of the Year Finalist)
There is a public bus that goes to Maryborough, but not frequently. The TiltTrain stops in at Howard Train Station. Other than that, though, there is no public transport.

Great for

  • Safe & Quiet
  • Close to excellent schools
  • Good community spirit

Not great for

  • Predominantly retiree population
  • Not a lot of growth, progress is slow
  • Public transport options are almost zero

Looking for a home in Howard?

"Very friendly and clean town."

Howard is within half an hours drive to Hervey Bay's many attractions and only 15 mins to Childers. Very friendly people and a very safe community. Nice state school and also child care centre. A planned coal mine just out of town will only lead to more employment and an increase in property values so if your thinking of buying in this area do so soon, it's on the verge of a price boom!
