"Gateway to Nowhere: A Leopold Experience"
Honestly, I don't get Leopold. It's only 10 minutes from Geelong CBD, yet it feels like I've entered a third-world country. Public transport options are poor, with hourly buses, if they even show up. The local shopping centre, Gateway Plaza, is unmaintained, feels dirty, and is unsatisfying on every visit. It’s trashed by the locals, and the ferals that have plagued the suburb seem to have become the main demographic. I live on a street where neighbours whinge and whine over the most pathetic and ridiculous things instead of addressing real crime.
Employment opportunities are scarce, with the only source of income for many being fraudulent welfare payments instead of actual work.
It’s just an overrated expansion of Whittington, with no prospects for investment or future growth, just the government's dumping ground to meet housing targets.
