Balvenie Street

"Elevated, quiet"

Balvenie Street runs between Cobalt and Glenlea Streets and at each of these intersections the street slopes down from a high point about midway. Near this high point is are some commanding views to the northern quarter across to Ferny Hills and Arana Hills and the sea breezes in summer are a delightful. The quality of housing varies from average (lower sections) to high (upper sections) however there is a deal of renovation occurring in houses along the entire street. The local neighbourhood is friendly. I know my neighbours on three sides and they are professional people, some with children still at home. We keep an eye on each other's property while one is away but crime doesn't seem to reach this part of the estate. Overall, safe, friendly and pleasant.

"Handy to the CBD without being pricey"

I moved here in October 2005 having bought while living in Canberra in 2003. I live in a friendly and relatively quiet street. Nearby Great Western Shopping Centre is easy to access and has everything you could want for a local outlet. The suburb is definitely green with the parks and bushland reserve making it easy to escape for an hour or two. Not far from here is Ferny Grove and a series of further bushland areas, part of the Brisbane Forest Park. I won't be moving for a while.

  • Quiet and safe
  • Convenient basic shopping

Not great for

  • Public transport good, not great
  • Peak hour traffic on Samford Road
  • Has its good and bad parts
