Manoora

"Cheap and close to town."

Lived in Grantala street for 2 years then rented out my unit. Cheap units to buy and rent. 10 min drive to Cairns shopping mall. A short walk to the local IGA.

Manoora has a bad reputation, people around Cairns tend to say "stay away from the 'M' suburbs" but I found it quite peaceful. Neighbours were elderly or small families renting cheaply while saving for their own home. Temporarily a druggie couple moved in but we contacted police as it was obvious they were selling drugs and they left very quickly. Parked cars out on the street with no issues. One time a drunk woman walked up the street yelling around. other than that there were no problems. I felt safe.

If your looking at investing there: the units are cheap, body corporate is expensive. I think I was paying $5,000 +a year. My unit was renovated and always had interest from lovely tenants, it never sat empty. It hasn't flooded yet but as it's only a few meters above sea level I was always concerned about flooding if a cyclone ever hit Cairns directly. Springfield crescent and grantala street are good streets in Manoora.

I liked Manoora enough that I would consider moving back there if I required a cheap place to live.

Woodbine

"Quiet, tree lined neighbourhood."

I have lived in Woodbine for a year now. Close to large shopping centers, great skate park with new pump track for the kids 5 minutes away. Lots of reserves. Tree lined streets. Multicultural. Friendly neighbours. I leave the house unlocked regularly and haven't heard of any issues with crime or seen any police around. I feel like it's more of an older generation that live here, have not come across many families with young children. Other than small neighborly chats every now and again everyone seems to stick to themselves. Very quiet area. Rentals are competitive and dont stay long on the market.

My family and I will be moving to an area with more young children.
