Lakes Entrance

"A small town full of self entitled and unfriendly cliques"

My wife and I have spent 3 years living in lakes entrance. Tbh it's one of the most nepotistic and gossipy towns I've ever had the displeasure of living in. Being a population of just under 5000 everyone pretty much is one degree of separation from each other and to compound that fact is the town is ran by a small group of around 300 odd people that all know each other and promote each other's businesses and all grab for self glory on social media praising themselves and their clique for even the smallest achievements. yeah half the true locals (your not classed as a local even if you've lived here for 20 years) are so inbred that you can just know that at least half the locals would have married their best mates ex-highschool sweetheart. If you want to holiday here do so. It's great if you like fishing or mini golf besides that it's pretty much a sleepy fishing town. Want to make meaningful friendship with locals nope they still are best mates with their primary school best mate. Want to get involved in local markets or business. Don't bother you could be selling gold plated caviar for $1 and your Facebook page would still have less likes than a local selling Coles caviar because locals and their cronies only go out of there way to promote their mates businesses no matter how garbage they are. Oh and you will also be dissallowed by market organisers to have the same product at a market as someone else despite anti competition laws there is one rule for lakes locals and one rule die everyone else. This town disgusts me if you want to feel like your in high school again with all the gossip, nepotism and favourtism come live in lakes. Stuff you Lakes Entrance locals you can stick the street sign with your great, great granddads surname up your smelly fishmongers butt.

I dont live there but was born nearby...I just can't stand 5000 people being denigrated like that. But you were different, you were the nice one who didn't make friends...I find that most difficult to believe.

Totally agree! Plus if you don't like pubs, clubs with chinese cafeteria style meals, fish and chips or pizzas, your food choices are very limited. The French restaurant is great but has a limited menu that never changes. The locals DON'T like newbies and don't support the local small shops unless they have been there for 30 years. They are tight fisted until a shop has a closing down sale and then they are there in hoards, buying everything and sighing how sad 'another' shop is closing. It is a town with more employment agencies, op shops pubs and clubs than any other town per capita. So, if you are a retiree (the largest percentage of townspeople), who loves fishing and clubs and want a boring social life, this is the place for you!!! Good luck fitting in!

^ point proven. The "locals" are toxic. I used to live here and wouldn't go back if you paid me.

lakess

Yes, I agree, Suzi.
Carolyn Read has clearly adopted the same ethos as her peers and shows herself to be a prime example of the type of nudnik you can expect to 'welcome' you to town in Lakes Entrance.

Ok... I was going to visit and check out this town for possible relocation to Lakes Entrance. Thanks for the heads up, people. I am currently in a place with similar locals who won't accept people. I am local so I don't cop the nonsense, but I see others suffer and it is horrid. Thank you for saving me wasting our family's time.

wow. Your comment has ruined chances for so many people that could've found this place perfect. Right or not, your comment makes you sound like a 5 year old. I've searched under my bed, in my closet, through my phone but I simply can't find where a single person asked. That comment is a waste of 2 billion years of evolution. You have too much free time, it's time to get you a hobby... painting maybe? Collecting Canadian quarters?
