"Strange place"
We moved to Hamilton in Sep 2020. Great place to live if you don't need a job. We have lived in several locations around Australia. And always been successful with employment, however in Hamilton it seems I am unemployable. I have been a successful tradesman and developed my skills to senior management but the only job I can get is cleaning toilets and stacking shelves, I cant even get a job in my trade yet they say they are desperate for my trade. The employers I have met are very rude and treat non locals like they are desiesed. The people I meet in managment positions have no people skills and would not last long if there position was in another location. Buisnesses make their own rules and justify illegal and unsafe practices as "thats just Hamilton " this town has crippled my family financially and made me lose hope of ever succeeding again. Came here for a better work life balance but all I got was longer hours than a city job for the lowest wages I have experienced since I was an apprentice 20 years ago. Nice town with everything to offer exept a real job. If your going to move here beware employment is virtually impossible and house rentals are non existent.
What did you expect moving to a town with a population of only 10,000? Most jobs will be obtained by word-of-mouth and who-you-know in these small places. Hamilton has been static for a long time, growth is not part of its euation. And refusing to divulge your trade doesnt give much context to your post. It really sounds like you didnt do your research properly before you came.
What is your trade?
