"You know you're alive living in Leichhardt"
Ah the the little Italy of Sydney. I love Leichhardt and Norton St is the beating heart of the place. OK so it's on a flight path 5 days out of 7 but the vibe makes up for it.
The restaurants in the Italian Forum and Norton Street offer a wide range of sometimes repetitive Italian dining but gradually other types are creeping in - Zenobia is a good Lebanese restaurant worth trying.
The council is mainly green and they've started to introduce solar power and they're trying exceptionally hard to smarten up the street which is great.
It's well serviced by public transport with 5 different bus routes heading up Norton Street from the city and the light rail close by.
There's always something happening on the street or in the forum and I love it.

Hi also Pure.Krome. You can get an idea of rents on the Domain or RealEstate websites, but I would say they average in Leichhardt from the $400 per week to $600 per week (and more in this crazy rental market now!).
