"The best of all the islands for real island living"
Karragarra is known by the locals as the jewel in the crown of the Bay Islands. Most of the other islands residents come here for its beautiful swimming spot and beach. It's got zero shops but that's how the locals prefer it. However the mini supermarket on Macleay is 3 minutes away by ferry, the Russell Island IGA is 15 minutes away by ferry and the mainland is 15 minutes express. Plus Woolworths delivers almost daily now. I don't know why one review said the last ferry is 850pm...ferries run from about 430am until around midnight. We also have a fire station and ambulance as well as helicopter pad for medical emergencies. People here are really very nice (despite a few cliques...but you get that anywhere). We have a community garden and yacht club too (not an actual venue, just a group of like minded people). I work in Brisbane and catch the 541am ferry and am in the city at work by 7am. Not a huge commute really. Coming from the gold coast was waaay longer both ways! Karra has a beautiful quiet atmosphere and while mainland parking is a bit of a headache, things will hopefully improve in the next few years once the mainland marina precinct is built and a multi storey carpark is put in. It beats the mainland for lifestyle and the cons are small compared to being back in the hectic heart of the mainland. Lived here four years but know many who've been here 20 plus years...that should tell you something!
