Gilruth Road

"More than meets the eye...."

As I walked along Gilruth St the other day I thought I had reached the end of the road (mmm sounds like a song) but the street turned the corner and kept going until of course it reached Kenmore Rd. Such great access for the residents with Marshall Lane at one end and Kenmore Rd at the other. I spoke to a couple of mature residents who had also lived in the street as a child. Gilruth street has the benefits of being close to main veins of Kenmore and yet is such a quiet and peaceful street. 5 stars from me.

Ijong Street

"Ijong St...Great street for bike riding!"

After walking up many hills today I thoroughly enjoying meeting the residents on the flat street of Ijong. My kids would certainly enjoy riding their bikes up and down this street. I was told by long term residents that forty years ago their were very few homes and a great deal of bulldozer activity.

Alkina Street

"Alkina St ... Fantastic Position!"

What a fantastic position Alkina Street is. A walk away from everything you would need. I spoke to many of the residents on this street today. Apparently forty years ago this street was fairly well set up with many more established houses than in the streets around it. Whilst door knocking I spoke to a number of young adults renting which would make sense due to such a great location.

Homes in Alkina Street, Kenmore, and the surrounding area were built in 1960s, but Wongabel Street in Kenmore was established first. Later came Ijong Street which paved over a small creek, and by 1970 the whole area of Kenmore East was well established.

Marshall Lane

"Marshall Lane on a rainy day!"

Today I walked the length of Marshall Lane to simply say good
afternoon to our Marshall Lane residents. I was struck by the amount of young people walking up and down the street heading to wherever they were going for that day. It is clearly a family street with many young families. Although it was raining I still ran into house proud residents manicuring their gardens and generally cleaning up.

Thank you Marshall Lane residents for sharing your stories with me.

Kersley Road

"Kersley Rd ... Inspired by Olive!"

Whilst meeting the residents on Kersley Rd last week, I learned that in early 1980, you could purchase a block of land for between $15,000 and $30,000 on this particular street. I also thoroughly enjoyed speaking with a very healthy and beautiful looking 96 year old who has been living in the street for 40 years.

"Door Knocking on Kenmore Road"

Today I walked the length of Kenmore Road to simply say good
afternoon to our Kenmore Road residents. I was delighted to hear of so many different stories and learn of families in many and
varied stages of life; from those who are renting to those who have been living in their Kenmore home for over 50 years.

I learned that 50 years ago, Kenmore Road was of course a dirt road. I learned that you could purchase a property on
Kenmore Road for around 300 pounds and that the Westside of the road was all acreage.

Thank you for sharing your stories with me.
