Muswellbrook

"An easy life in a booming town"

I have been living in Muswellbrook for 3 years now, from suburban Sydney. There is currently a big resources boom meaning employment in the area is very positive for people who want to work in mines, or mining related industries (such as boiler makers). It's a very easy life in Muswellbrook, being central to Newcastle and Tamworth means weekend drives are always fun. We also like to visit the local vineyards, olive groves and cheese factory for tastings and meals. The arts centre always has an exhibition on worth visiting too. I have read other reviews here saying the coal dust being a major problem in the town, and yes my house does get dustier than when I lived in Sydney - however I am breathing in a lot less carbon monoxide from being stuck in city traffic every day. As for the shopping in Muswellbrook being a dissappointment, I certainly get by very easily with the shops that are here and when I want something special it is an excuse for a drive! My only compaint about shopping here is I wish the smaller retailers paid more attention to providing good customer service. I hear the rental market is very tight at the moment, and with the big employment boom I would recommend invertors considering purchasing property in Muswellbrook.

I've stated elsewhere, that many people who work at the mines live near me. I've noticed that all of them move on after 12 months. I don'tknow if it's because they couldn't hack it - or if the mines havemoved them on for their own reasons. Don't move here expecting secure full time employment without checking first about the job they offer you.

sorpleo, 8 tenths of people in Muswellbrook have been employed or living there for more than 4 years.

That's less that 8 tenths hunts. I've lived here over 7 years and seen many, many leave less than 12 months after they came here!
