I moved here 33 years ago and built on a vacant block. I raised my three children and had 2 dogs. Quiet and leafy and get woken to the sounds of birds. I have no idea why someone would call this a "horrible suburb" other than their expectations must be extremely high.
I would highly recommend bringing up a young family in this quiet and friendly area. I am only moving as the house is now too big and am down sizing.
Its like 5 minutes to Engadine and 15 minutes to Sutherland and you have all the shopping and transport you need.
