Subiaco

"Subi's great but not for all."

Subiaco is one of the reasons Perth is such a great city. It's vibrant but not overwhelming, has beautiful parks and gardens (Lake Juilbup), some of the best dining and night life in Perth. Only a few minutes by train to the city, ten minutes drive to the beach or river. Subiaco pays the price for popularity, with parking in and around Rokeby Rd difficult and traffic heavy at peak times and if the footy is on at Subi Oval. With a few billion dollars being spent on world-class hospital facilities nearby, if medical treatment is high on your list, Subiaco is perfect. But Subi is expensive to buy or rent, you won't get much change out of a million bucks for any three bedroom home.

Great for

  • Great choice of restaurants and bars
  • Relaxing - doesn't feel like you're right next to the city
  • Saves you huge amounts of time & money when travelling to/from work
  • Short walk to shops/dinner/transport

Not great for

  • Prices are severely over-valued
  • Traffic generally slow on Loftus & north end of Rokeby at peak hour
  • Traffic from AFL

Cranbrook

"What's Going On?"

Cranbrook has gone from being a possible rural hub to an almost ghost town. The new IGA folded in weeks and remains closed. The General Store closed down a couple of years ago, and that had the only petrol in town, other than the credit-card-in-a-machine on the abandoned biofuel project. Word has it the local council is a bit of a dud, local interests keep it that way. It's pretty, it's neat, it's quiet and it's on life-support.

Great for

  • Peaceful and quiet

Not great for

  • Few facilities remain, Mt Barker for all your shopping and fuel.
