Soldiers Hill

"I own my own house on my own peice of land"

Bought myself a gorgeous 2 bedroom cottage home on top of a hill over looking Soldiers Hill. I have cool neighbours on each side of me and they are both in their late 30’s with young families. I walk to the station every morning and traveling to Melbourne for work everyday doesn’t bother me. Only on the odd occasion where the trains delayed, it gets a little annoying. This has happened twice for me in 6 mths so that isn’t bad at all!

There’s so many hip and cool cafes and gorgeous restaurants to eat at.

I paid under 300k for my gorgeous cottage home and I love coming home to it every day!

Broadmeadows

"Affordable, convenient, excellent infrastructure, local ammenities and facilities!!"

nothing wrong with the suburb aside from the stigma attached. might be a slow burner but isn't this the best way of getting in now before it becomes extremely competitive, then unaffordable? at the moment, you can buy a decent size block of land and a house which can be renovated and you'll still be able to live quite comfortably. its weird how suburbs flourish, it just takes a couple of hip and cool cafes/eateries for people to start recognising it and the rest follows..

i have friends that live in glenroy paying almost double what you would in broadmeadows/ pascovale but they still come to broadmeadows to run their errands? sounds silly to me but it makes me feel better knowing i spent 400k less on a home which which is no better nor worse.

anyhow, land will alway appreciate in value so my thoughts are for 10 years to come. take a drive around broadmeadows and you will notice how may old homes there are.. but also, how many are being replaced with brand new development.. i take this as a sign of growth and change.

i live just on the other side of camp road close to the train station, that little pocket is quite peaceful. lots of the elderly and families. i can walk to the shopping centre, schools and train station within minutes. there a small strip of shops near the train station on railway cresent... I'm hoping one day someone will turn one of those into a trendy cafe that will make great breakfast and coffee! any takers? haha...

Great for

  • Large shopping centre
  • Local schools/tafe
  • Lots of transport

Not great for

  • Not much nightlife
  • Less of cafes and bars.

Yep - I bought just south of Camp Road within a 10 minute walk of Jacana station. It's quite amazing how many units and developments are going up around there now. Every second property is being subdivided. Like I say to all of my friends who live in the inner city who are like "DON'T GO THERE! IT'S TERRIBLE etc", give the suburb time. It's changing rapidly and getting more expensive. I was lucky to get in for under half a million dollars for a decent block, but that wont last long (the house is old and needs work, but for the price I'm not complaining). Olsen Place and Widford Road will definitely change the moment you get even just one decent cafe there.

The only thing I would change would be to improve security around Jacana station. It's far too quiet and seems very, very sketchy at night. Other than that, it's 30 minutes to the city, has 2 trainlines, a decent sized shopping precinct that has everything and good access to the ringroad. Factor in that if this rail loop thing ever gets off the ground, Broadmeadows will become a major hub interchange, then you can safely say that if you're lucky to have bought in the area, you're sitting on a goldmine. The suburb just hasn't started gentrifying just yet, but it will.
