Footscray

"Super convenient, and constantly improving"

I moved to Footscray in 2017 and am so glad I did.
Footscray is not perfect, however it just keeps improving, I see new and better things pop up all the time.

Things that I think are great:
The long stretch of walking/bike paths along the maribrynong river, I walk along her several times a week and it's great to walk along, much better than walking the streets, like most suburban places I have lived before.

The food, it's amazing how much choice you have around you, I still have not been able to eat everywhere, but I am spoiled with choice.

It's multicultural and also has a cool creative/art scene, you can really appreciate the interesting, diverse people within your community, I love feeling like I'm just in the mix.

The night life is alot of fun, there are heaps of small to decent sized bars, doing a pub/bar crawl is awesome and the fact I can just walk home when I'm done rather than waiting for a cab is another bonus.

Some future things that I'm excited about, the Westgate tunnel which is going to remove alot of the trucks off our streets and potentially other cars. It's also going to build a bike track that goes from Footscray to the docklands elevated off the roads.

Footscray college is having 2 campuses renovated or built from scratch which looks really good so far.

The new hospital getting built on Ballarat road.

The period homes, alot ready for fixing up, which are very cute to look at but again offer potential to many who want to put the work in.

The public transport is convenient, there are trams and buses but more importantly, Footscray station is a major stop on our train lines. You get the Sunbury line, Williamstown line, Werribee line, Ballarat line and Geelong line all stopping at Footscray, if trains are running express they will always stop at Footscray, this means you get much more frequent services.
In the future when the new metro tunnel is open, Footscray will be the first stop outside of the new loop, so you will have access to the new loop and the old loop.

Some things I don't love
Currently there is truck noise, I look forward to this reducing with the Westgate tunnel.

Parking can be difficult, like most inner city locations sometimes it's hard to find a park.

A lot of new apartments being built, which I have no issue with however I wonder how congested the roads may become.

Still needs some sprucing up, don't expect Footscray to look like Malvern, it's just not that type of suburb, however it is changing and looking nicer and nicer as time goes on.

I am fortunate enough to be able to afford the more expensive neighbouring suburbs if I wanted too, however I just LOVE living here and will stay here for a long time.

Who lives here?

Do you know if the trucks will disappear off Simm st and Whitehall as a result of the tunnel?
