East 19th St

"The greatest little spot in all of NYC"

Living in Gramercy Park is like living in an oasis in the chaos that is Manhattan. We have all of the great restaurants on Irving St, it's not cheap, we're paying about $4k per month for a 2 bedroom but I love the feeling you get, and I can walk my dogs without a care in the world!

Surely $4000 a month doesn't count as 5/5 street value?!?

Echo that point. This site is being abused by 5/5 reviewers!

Shouldn't there be some type of community based voting system that qualifies a review? 4k a month is outrageous!

JBL

unfortunately, that's actually a good price for a 2BR in that neighborhood (or in many places in manhattan). very very sad.

OK so this is bizarre...never been to streetadvisor.com until I read a review in TechCrunch, I land on the page for the first time and there's my street rated #1. A bit weird, is google maps moving inside my apt?

Well, obviously I am a bit bias, but E. 19th is a great street. 71 Irving Place is the best cup of coffee in the City, you've got Friend of a Farmer, sushi, and several other great bars are restaurants...not to mention Rick Okasic lives on E. 19th.

But I think the piece de resistance about the Gramercy hood is the one of our neighbors, Cyrus Field, laid the first transatlantic cable...an incredible story http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/amex/cable/peopleevents/p_field.html

pauldf78, you can always say whether the review was helpful\unhelpful under each review. Simply click on what you think! There are even some smarts built into the StreetAdvisor scoring system that takes people's Helpfuls\Unhelpfuls into account.

So if you say it was unhelpful it'll bring the score down?

Score goes down for unhelpfuls and up for helpfuls... I'm not sure but I think unhelpfuls might even impact a user's StreetCred points to try and discourage them writing a whole heap of stupid reviews or something.

Wow, I don't understand how someone could just throw away $4,000 every month...

hehehe...$4000 per month is ALOT, but depends on what you are after, and the lifestyle you want to lead. I personally would not do it, but some people have alot of disposeable income. When i think of the nice LCD TV I could get each month for 4K though, it does make me cringe ;)

USD$4,000 a month is a MASSIVE amount of money with regards to rent. It's scary to think that JBL is saying that this amount is normal (even though he also thinks it's sad that 4K is the accepted going price).

Some photo's or images or more reviews of this street would be great to get a more accurate reflection of this street.

@ mrated: my guess is that it does effect the score based on other reviews i've read with unhelpful's.

I suspect that is the typical COST one could pay to be close to all conveniences that is associated living in an urban lifestyle such as New York, New York.

On the other hand, I have discovered the same pricey trend while living directly on the Eastern Shore from Maryland to Florida in high-rise condos or other surrounding properties located within the vicinity near an OCEAN or waterfront view!

It’s all about location, location, location…

Thanks for sharing.

FYI-- some folks pay 600.00 to 800.00USD monthly just to PARK and vehicle to live in the city!
