Illawong

"Home for the white flight out of Sydney"

Fairly large Anglo-Australian population with hints of European and Lebanese people.

Not a particular classy or cultured suburb. Public transport is awful, so you must own a car and enjoy driving long distances.
Good for people that like to show off big and overpriced empty houses and those that have inflated egos. It's filled with beautiful trees, rivers, nice parks and fresh air! The shops are lacking but Westfield Miranda is about 20 minutes away.

Young families are generally friendly and full of spirit. If you're a nature and family person, this is a great suburb, but if you're young and want more excitement, stick to communities around the Sydney CBD. Crime is fairly low, traffic is quite good and drunken behaviour is common. I recommend this place if you want peace and quiet and a sense of community. Good for people over the age of 40.

It's supposedly in the Sutherland Shire, so none. Sophisticated and stylish are not words I would use to describe the communities in the Sutherland Shire. Racist and Xenophobic are probably better words.

Moved in here for about a year now and everyone here has been beautiful and welcoming. Whilst a car is necessary in Illawong, it's evident from your comments that your views are well coloured by your perceptions of Sutherland Shire more generally. Generally, it a quiet suburb that contains a mixture of established, older couples and young families who are now moving into the area as Baby Boomers downsize. Convenient local shops with beautiful bushland and water scenery make this place a beautiful place to live, especially given its proximity to the CBD.
