Carrum Downs

"Terrible place to live - especially if you've got kids"

Me and my partner have been living in Carrum Downs for about 1 1/2 years now. We were very excited when we first moved in, and through research and driving around, the area generally looked really nice on the outside.

After being here a while now though, I can see we have made a bad choice to buy a home here.
This boils down to a few things, which don't seem to have much hope of changing for the better:

1. Rental Properties: There are SO many government commissioned houses, and the people inhabiting them are pretty much what you'd expect. Foul mouthed, doll-bludging, dero's who you can always hear having domestic, or parties (which don't sound any different), and most of the time you can barely tell they're talking in english.

2. Hoons: Get these Commission Homers into their cars, and onto the streets, and what do you get? Really bad drivers. I swear, the amount of times I've seen cars doing over 100+km/h down 50 zones, I'm surprised there are any kids left in Carrum Downs at all.

3. The general mood and appearance of everyone: I know I've mentioned the people already, but I've gotta say, the people all over the area really make Carrum Downs a depressing place to live. It doesn't matter if I go to Coles, Woolworths, the Petrol Stations, or just for a nice walk down the street, 80% of the people I see look like they're close to death (drugs/alcohol/whatever) or like they've got nothing to live for.
Because we have a dog, we go for alot of walks, and it's a very rare occasion that someone will actually say hello back in a friendly way, like a normal human being should.

4. The Council: The council really don't seem to care much about Carrum Downs. There is rubbish, and graffiti everywhere that I have never seen get cleaned up. The local council had a 'town meeting' shortly after we moved in (we got a letter about it), but the thing is, it was scheduled for midday on a Wednesday, when any person with half a brain, and anything substantial to add, would be off at work. The only people that would've been able to attend this meeting would be the doll bludgers who are home all day sitting on their asses, and I don't think they'd be too interested in improving the area.

There is more I haven't covered here, but I could go on and on, so I'll sum it up. Unless you really don't care about your surroundings, I'd stay away from Carrum Downs. Especially if you're thinking of raising a family. If my girlfriend got pregnant, I would sell the house and work 7 days a week if that's what it would take to afford a house in a decent area like Mt Eliza.

Thanks for reading. I hope this helps you form an opinion about my beautiful suburb.

I completely agree! It is an awful place to live. If you have a job and any class it is not the suburb for you. When we moved here we could not believe how many people we saw that were wearing pyjamas to the supermarket!

I agree, people say there is graffiti everywhere. Yes there may be, but we moved into the City of Casey and it is $300 more well spent in rates a year because the council cleans up the graffiti EVERYWHERE. We moved 3 years ago and do not regret the move, I didn't want my children going to school there so it was time to pack up and leave, we are now in Devon Meadows and its a beautiful place to live.

Do you live near the guns? And the planes? And the people who go use their dirt bikes in your street? Or in the unfinished industrial areas? So sad my child wakes up to WAR noises, guns, planes and motors.
And the people think they have to put up. I hate how the council doesn't even care about the intersection near the Hindu temple....and there isn't even a footpath to that place?!

Carls, when your kids grow up you they will find Devon Meadows the ultimate in boring.

I have lived here in Carrum Downs for 10 years and I have never had my home broken into or my car and I do recommend CD. Since you hate Carrum Downs so much, well get out and take your negative comments with you. There are worse places than CD. If you match the profile of being down to earth, then you will fit in nicely.
