"Close to everything"

3 mins from Lavington shopping plaza, 2 mins from Dean Street central Albury, mostly a nice pocket with places on the hills with nice views out towards Jindera. Lots of young families moving in.

"Better than we expected…"

We’re a professional couple with 2 young kids who moved to Rocky from Victoria in early 2021 looking for a new challenge. We knew nobody, no connections, and had never been north on Brisbane. Like any town, what and who you surround yourself with probably dictates how your time is going to pan out. We’ve settled into Rocky really comfortably, the people are friendly, there are jobs available if you actually want to work, the schools are great, the child friendly parklands and water parks are great, the beaches at Yeppoon and The Keppels are great, there’s a small live music scene and theatre groups, 4x4 driving and camping within 2 hours drive is amazing, fishing and boating, we’ve all joined local sports teams and met people from all walks of life… Housing is really affordable- from $250,000 you could get a little 3/1 Queenslander or splash a cool $800,000 in the popular parts of town.
Not seen a croc (in the wild) yet but who knows?!?! And no, the town doesn’t smell of cattle, in fact besides the cow statues you never really see cattle outside of beef week, and that adds some great atmosphere anyway…
People always tell us how hot it gets but that’s what air con is for and it’s all perspective really- go live in Darwin for 5 years and everywhere is cold after that!!!
Yes, there are some rough people and a few bogans, and yes, there’s some poverty around, but show me a regional or city area where this is not the case…
Rocky and the Capricorn coast in general gets the thumbs up from us…

Hi, I too am currently residing in rural Vic (Gippsland) and am considering selling up and making the move to Rockhampton due to affordable property purchase prices. I am wondering if yr still enjoying yr move to Rockhampton and not regretting anything. How did you adapt too the humidity? We have plenty of 35 - 40 + degree days in summer here in Vic anyway! I have the choice between Rocky, Gladstone and Bundaberg so I would appreciate any advice you could offer. Thanks

Hi there! Still doing fine! As weve settled we notice more subtleties than previously, but nothing to make us think weve made a terrible decision. Some of the things include the lack of public transportation if people wanted/needed to use it. The night life is fairly subdued and spread out so the city centre can sometimes lack a bit of atmosphere. We notice people complain about the heat a lot here, but I think weve had 4 days over 38, which I think is pretty manageable for an Aussie summermost days at the moment are around 33-34 and it is more humid heat than down south but we find it very manageable, not as bad as you might thinkWeve not been to Bundy yet so I couldnt comment fairly, we have been to Gladstone though and my wife works there twice a week. We are very glad didnt settle in Gladstone, for many reasons, and would rank the Rocky/ Yeppoon area far ahead of Gladstone/ Tannum. Obviously Bundy is closer to Brisbane, so that may affect your decision, either I wish you the very best if make the move

The Cap Coast is having what most would consider a cold winter, with daytime averages around 25 and nights around 13. It's the sub-tropics, so there is humidity which is to be expected but it's nowhere near as noticeable as what I thought it would be being a southerner moving up...
