Argus St

"Heartbeat"

The middle of the best part of Cheltenham! Runs right up to southland.

Walk to everything including some of the best schools in the area.

Speedbumps help keep the traffic manageable, as long as you don't live right outside one :).

Some great ovals and parkland, which become very active on the weekend. Home to one of the most popular auskick groups in the state, a testament to the family nature of the area.

"Okay street."

We stayed with friends who lived in this street. A nice area, and seems very safe to walk out at night, but there is a bit of airport noise over here.. Never noticed it on the other side of cheltenham (near argus street).

The milkbar seems nice.

Great for

  • Close to great shops, schools, beaches and child care
  • Friendly neighbourhood, great vibe, great milkbar

"Great suburban shopping strip"

Most shopping strips in suburbs are dead, but not this one! I have *NEVER* seen a closed shop in bernard street in over 20 years. The locals love and support it. Lots of great food options and friendly staff. IGA has just opened, which provides a quick way to get food without needing to navigate the busyness of southland.

"Busy, but WHAT A LOCATION!"

It's a busy street. But offers great value for money. You can buy houses on this street for $200k less than other parts of cheltenham, and this gives you entry to an amazing suburb.. Walk to station, shopping, schools, everything. Just sell your car!

"My perspective after 20 years."

I previously wrote some comments that may have seemed negative, so bear with me while I reword it.

I have lived in Rosewarne Ave for over 20 years. It is a quiet family safe neighborhood. Southland is getting bigger, and the area is getting busier around it.

There's a lot of employment options in the area. My kids have loved being able to walk to various jobs at southland, never had any trouble picking up extra work whenever they needed extra cash.

There used to be drunks outside a nightclub that used to be in southland (it was called wild bills), and a bit of trouble that went with it, but thankfully it has closed! It's now a TGI fridays, and it's now a beautiful safe environment again (I was afraid to walk past southland late at night with that nightclub, but it's all good now)... If you like nightlife, you should probably consider another suburb, because cheltenham is really just a family environment now.

I have friends over in the east side of Cheltenham (far end of farm road) and there's a bit of airport noise over there, so buy/live closer to central cheltenham and you wont notice it at all.

Great for

  • Centrally located to lots of facilities
  • Close to everything, the beach, shopping, good schools, parks

Wow what a crook of ****. The most over the top review goes to k_freeson well done i love a good laugh.

Sounds like Robs back lol just under a different name. Sorry to hear you had a rough time in Chelt but where do you based your crime stats is it just on your experience? When i went to the Cheltenham police station they just laughed at me when i asked if Cheltenham was a bad suburb they then went and named a few suburbs that i should visit if i wanted to know what bad was. Drunken violence in the streets what am i missing no local news on this and nothing in the local paper are you sure? We are involved in many community things and no one has a bad word to say about Cheltenham (apart from the planes and parking at Southland)

Where does this unemployment stuff come from (funny that's the same thing Rob said before he deleted his post are you related). I'll give you a snap shot of my street and what we all do i'm a tradie, the lady next door is a Doctor, her husband has his own computer business, next door on the other side is a landscaper and a primary teacher, over the road a journalist and a bank manager not exactly slumming it our we.

Really your post is just like Robs way over the top in fact it sounds like your all working together to bad mouth the suburb why only you guys/girls will know. The last line about the stress and the fear really sums it up doesn't it nothing could be further from the truth we love this suburb and so do all our neighbours.

The fact you give Chelt one star makes me laugh what would you give Frankston? I said all the positives in my post and for you to say its a one star suburb really makes a joke of this website and its reviews.

Look forward to your next gem of a review under yet another name it's a wonder the admins of this site let this continue.

Our friends live off Rosewarne Ave, on Newry Street. They've never once complained of any crime or other trouble. In fact it's a nice quiet area with the convenience of Southland around the corner. Airport noise or not, you could do a hell of a lot worse than Cheltenham, believe me.
