Howard Springs

"A small town, good pub, laid back lifestyle"

Howard Springs is one of those little gems, a diamond in the rough so to speak. Good little quiet town, similar in some aspects to Humpty Doo, but closer to town. The Howard Springs Tav cooks a mean feed, decent prices. Steak that will fill your plate for $20, and they are whopping great plates. Free Strippers for over 18's every Wednesday night, and the Thirsty Camel Bottle-O attached has some fairly competitive rates given the price of the NT Liquor Market.
The Supermarket has a decent range of everyday nescessities, for some of the more specific stuff you will have to drive the 15-20 minutes to Palmerston or the 30-45 Minutes to Darwin City or Casuarina to visit Speciality stores, however, good little place to live.
Very little violence in this area, asides from the occasional young bloke who shoots his mouth acting tough at the pub, or the tourist doing the same, bouncers generally deal with problems and the locals are all nice and friendly. Good place to either settle down and have kids, or retire on a few acres.

Humpty Doo

"Small country town, not that fair from the big smoke"

Humpty Doo really isn't a suburb of Darwin, it's donkeys away, far enough to be it's own little patch of paradise, but close enough that it's not an epic quest to get to the city. The cost of living in Humpty doo is a bit high, but not stupid like other parts of the NT, as it is still close enough to Darwin. ATO Tax Breaks exist for Humpty-Doo as it is considered a Remote Locality for Tax Purposes.
The town has had a few wealthy residents over the years, including one man who had his own private zoo in the town.

Moulden

"Small Suburb, high rate of Vagrancy"

Moulden looks like it was once a good suburb, but has fallen a long way with pockets of housing comission families and the rest of the houses generally being low income families. For Northern Territory rent, Moulden can be cheap, but keep in mind that it is cheap for a reason, and the houses have full security fencing for a reason.

Not great for

  • Crime
  • Hoons
  • Vagrancy
  • Goverment Housing pockets

Woodroffe

"Small Suburb, Slum like in places"

Woodroffe has good sides and bad sides, there are some areas within the suburb where vagrancy of some rather uncouth groups choose to hang, and there are some better parts. Fenced houses for the most part to help deter crime, streets can be quiet, however some streets have a high rate of hoonage down them with street racers enjoying the quiet back streets with sharp turns.

Great for

  • Close to the local Military Base
  • Close to minor shopping centres
  • Short drive (30m) to Darwin City

Not great for

  • Vagrancy
  • Hoons
  • Generalised Gloominess
